Smoking ban in all pubs and clubs

MPs have voted by huge margins to ban smoking from all pubs and private members' clubs in England.

Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt said the change, expected to take effect in summer 2007, would "save thousands of people's lives"
Elspeth Lee, of Cancer Research UK, said: "This is really going to affect generations to come and make the nation a lot healthier."

However, Simon Clark, director of smoking support group Forest, said: "This is a double whammy and an unnecessary and illiberal piece of legislation that denies freedom of choice to millions of people.

I think smoking should be banned all together, its evil and addictive, and makes a lot of none-smokers worse off than the smokers

SO now the brits will drink their pints on the pub and get outside for a nice cig :P big deal

Pubs should choose to be Smoking Free or not , or make 2 AREAS for Non Smokers and smokers.

What's Gay Is That It Is Now Banned In Private Members Clubs. PMC's Should Be Able To Enforce There Own Rules And Regulations.

What a dipshit, maybe i should go burn down his house, and if he complains then i will just tell him that he is denying me my freedom to burn down houses... It's really quite the same, in both cases the people doing it like it, and someone else gets hurt by it.
That's why here in Holland, weed isn't illegal
Don't you smoke weed? Which is also unhealthy for other people? Bad comparison.

Also the legalisation of weed here is totally fucked up, don't get me wrong, i don't see weed as less evil then alcohol, but imo they should have some stronger laws for that aswell, not sure what, but i'm sure i could think of something if it actually had any use to think about it, anyway back to weed, it's bad (save me the cool crap, i ain't buying it), and no person in their right mind would legalize it.

That's as stupid as letting a person go who has the materials and the plans to build a bomb, but wasn't quite there yet... oh yeah let this person free, let's put him in jail after he blows something up...

...and the tobacco companies in the US hear this and think it's a perfect oppritunity to increase ads and hype about smoking. I'm so glad my parents don't smoke or I'd proably be dead. With my allergies....yeah

Also what I like about Georgia is that ALL restaurants banned smoking :) so people like me can breathe in the world

Is it not denial of freedom of choice when non smokers are forced to inhale harmful smoke and also smell like shit just for going out to have a few drinks?

I support this fully, but am sad its taken to long to come into effect and that it still wont happen till 2007

    Envy you

I'm 50/50 with the ban on smoking. Hopefully it'll convince me to quit when the rule comes round. Untill then :wiggle:

Actually, I don't smoke weed. Infact, I don't smoke at all (Never have). I was merely responding to the other guy about freedom of choice. So there's nothing 'bad comparison' about it.
