    talk Mutated butterfly from Fukushima

The picture shows the butterfly before and after the effects of the radiation.

An investigation carried out last september showed that the babies of these mutated butterflies are also born mutated with the same traits as their parents as well as showing new abnormalities and seems to have been confirmed to be genetic damage.

Read all about it here: http://www.nature.com/srep/2012/1208...srep00570.html

Its not. Really it is more an outerworld thread...

I decided to post this here instead of the Outerworld because it is easy for people to start posting all sorts of news stories and can easily get out of control. Also, while this may not be what most people would call entertainment it certainly is interesting especially if you consider how easy it is for nature to be changed into something that looks completely different with only a few changes in their genetic code and how delicate life is in general. I could also post some very entertaining crazy and rad visual illusion to show how easily fooled our eyes are but in a sense this also shows how reality can be warped but from another perspective.

    Re: Mutated butterfly from Fukushima

What's crazy to think is that the Radiation was so great that the US possibly would've faced Relocation due to potential exposure. The Radiation clouds were measured to stretch around pretty much the whole entire Globe meaning that (estimated) 90% of the World was effected by Fukushima directly; leaving trace amounts of Radiation including Iodine and Caesium from New York, to Alaska, to Hawaii, Austria etc. the list goes on. They also believe that large amounts of Radioactive Isotopes were released into the Pacific Ocean, needless to say Fukushima fucked shit up.

But I do see how this (thread, not Fukushima) could be entertaining to some people. It was for me, I love reading about things like this. It's Biology and Science mixed into one and it's pretty amazing to see what effects Fukushima had on wildlife even to this day.

    I personally don't believe it's connected completely....

    Hold on...hear me out...

The only way these test could have been conducted would be under closed conditions...somewhere where the butterfly could be induced to the radiation in a controlled setting....

Well with this control came a MASSIVE shrinkage in the butterflies mobility range....meaning it was caged...I think the lack of mobility and range in it's travel could have something to do with the fact that it's wings were reduced....I think it evolved cause it didn't need to fly as far...so evolved into a walking insect.

    Just a thought.

You're thinking of the process of an evolutionary trait, adapting to the environment thing... Radiation affecting creatures is more of a spontaenous random genetic mutation where the environment itself [not the radiation] had ZERO impact on said creature.

i.e. - It's not easily duplicated to get the same results again.

Entertainment is for jokes, funny pictures, cool videos, not for atomic mutations. Moved to Outerworld

They must have collected the butterflies from the outsides which their first found out that it have mutated so their then took it into the labs.

    Evidence
We collected the first-voltine adults in the Fukushima area in May 2011, some of which showed relatively mild abnormalities. The F1 offspring from the first-voltine females showed more severe abnormalities, which were inherited by the F2 generation. Adult butterflies collected in September 2011 showed more severe abnormalities than those collected in May.

They found that exposing test subjects to radiation or irradiated food did result in similar abnormal traits. It's in the link.

After Tjernobyl, alot of newborns mutated too or had a handicap, it's linked indeed

    Re: Mutated butterfly from Fukushima

Chernobyl and Fukushima had the same kind of affects as the above said. A lot of newborns were mutated or handicapped afterwards and with Fukushima some creatures/animals were mutated as was this butterfly. I think it's sad how much radiation can affect wildlife and natural things.

It's also extremely interessting, because life itself is evolving by mutations itself. It all started out with some cell that mutated and kept on mutating. Same for Natural Selection process, where mutated species with special abilities had a bigger chance to survive and give birth.
