I woke up and got ready just to find out that my school closed because a student and a teacher might have the swine flu. I'm pissed because I got up for this shit. They closed it at midnight last night while most of us were still sleeping. They said it was a student with special needs. I went to Mexico April 6th, and I coughed considerably in the past few days but it's gone. I hope I didn't give it to the autistic student. -_-

theres one in devon or something like that that has closed down until the 11th of may *i think* but there is nothing going around my college. just people coughing and everyone panicing that swine flu is there.
I think in the whole of Australia the most news stations reported that there is 120 suspected people who are in isolation, 55 in my state (NSW) I think, highly doubt any school around my area will close any time soon.
I find it pathetic that schools are getting closed due to the flu. Regardless if it's the swine flu, or the seasonal flu, schools should never be closed because of it. They're basically the same thing, besides that you get a sudden high fever with the swine. Plus the fact that only one kid has died because of it just shows that it's not needed, when the seasonal flu accounts for way more deaths in the U.S. yearly. Plus, a lot of people may have already had it, and never noticed, as it's the same exact thing is getting the normal flu. But everyone's freaking out because the news keeps associating it with deaths just to get more viewers on their program. Although, it'd sure be nice to have my school be closed for such ridiculous reason.

You can't really cure a virus, just treat it. I know people are overreacting everywhere because of Mexico. Everyone should know that Mexico has shitty healthcare.

and yeah, that's another part of this whole epidemic that is making people panic, but they don't look at it properly. UK, USA, Canada ect have a better health care system that Mexico by far, yet they just look at deaths *sigh* people are easily lead by media

The problem is that H1N1 is a new virus mutation which no one saw before. We are dealing with the unknown. It's human nature to be scared of the unknown. :P
I don't really worry. But I see why people do. In the last 100 years or so various kinds of flu has taken houndreds of millions of lives. Today we got a lot more control and knowledge though. The media loves scaring the people.
In Australia (QLD) there has been alot of talk about the swine flu. Our school particularly has not closed. Instead we have had serious notices from the principal that if we have any symptoms of a flu then don't bother coming to school, instead see a doctor. Yeah it's pretty bad, could even be the nest black plague you never know :S.

Damn, i hope my school closes down for a few times, im starting to get sick of some of the idiots at my school. There has been 2 or 3 schools closed due to swine flu (Not to be confused with the pool being closed due to AIDS) and one of the schools is actually pretty close, its a matter of time till we get shut down by the district.

Urgh, there has been rumours going round that a science teacher has it in my college. I know it's most likely false, but I'd be super pissed if they closed down the college so close to my exams!

Trust me, no you don't. If your school gets closed down, all the students attending that school will have to make up those days/weeks lost in the summer. /Fail. :P
Anyway, 2 schools closed down already in my city. 1 is right by my school. >.> But, mines not closed down yet, so I'm good. Although, I've been coughing a little lately. But no fever, so I think I just have the normal flu.
Personally I would sacrifice my, think it's about 3 month, holiday for at least some time off during term. I believe Germany has a strange system, 6 day weeks and longer holidays. I prefer working longer during term and having short holidays periodically.
Not if your school hasn't used up its snow days. My school has like 1 week max of snow days before having to extend school longer. I prob will finish school in about like 3 days later.
I heard they're going to close my school for at least 1 week. Rumor has it that it'll be closed for 2 weeks. The reason why my school closed is because a mentally retarded student got it and he or she couldn't understand that she or he is supposed to cover her mouth when coughing or sneezing and to wash his/her hand often.
More like the other way around my retarded friend. It has not killed 168 people, those are cases that MAY have been associated with the H1N1 virus, but they have not been confirmed. Last time I checked there were only 18 CONFIRMED cases that were the direct result of death from the H1N1 virus. Then there's the fact that ONLY ONE PERSON has died from the H1N1 virus in the U.S., when the normal flu accounts for way more deaths upon Americans each year. Most of the people in the U.S. have not even had to be hospitalized, and have been sent home to simply fight it off (sounds similar to having the flu, eh?).
People also have had this virus before the media blew it out of proportion, and people just got over it like any other flu. The only reason there are so many cases popping up left right is because they're looking for it now.
Plus the overall health care of Mexico is not so great, and you can die from any sickness there, as in some parts of Mexico you can't even receive medicine.
Also, every "virus is infectious as fuck", thus the reason every person gets the flu at least once a year on average. Oh, and guess what, it also targets the young and old! So next time you run your cocky mouth, do some research (some brains may also help).
