though i'm not critisizing your chose of mods, but i'm just saying that her "specialty" if she has one, is WoW and she should have been modded if anywhere, there.

it is a poll asking MEMBERS weather or not THEY think the new mods should be more well known to the community. Nothing mental, kaoii, ex, becky, akaruz, or any other smod/mod says can "finalise" this matter because it is asking for member opinions
He's not questioning wether she was a good more or not, he's questioning if she was made a mod for the right reasons.
When you mod like a dozen mods in a matter of days, then you will definetly have some good ones, but that's not what he, and most others are concerned about, it's about the ones that are not good.
And what Rishwin wants is the risks to be lower by getting to know the person first.
Now in theory i agree, in reality you can't, as there are to many forums (mainly the development section) which has lots of users who are unknown to the majority of the community, yet it's those members that are needed for it.
So while i not fully agree, i do agree that it should be harder to be a mod, by only moderating people with say 100 posts, and joined atleast a month before that, then a better judgement can be made wether the person would be good or not.
Anyway with girls it's hard, when a attractive, or even a moderately attractive girl shows up then half the guys are drooling, because for some reason they give a shit (i mean seriously, why not just like who you like, and just browse porn while doing it, you get best of both worlds), which makes those people popular.
Now i wasn't around when she was made mod, so i don't know how she was before that, but i read some topics were a whole bunch of nerds got horney over her, and although that's not her fault, it doesn't give me much trust that she was moderated for the right reasons, i seen it here, and on many other forums that girls, especially the better looking ones, are thrown moderating powers if they want it.
Anyway i'm sticking with that new moderators should be properly checked, and if they can't yet because they are to new, then they shouldn't be made, infractions should be moderated by Supermods, as it allows easy exploitation of the system, and they should be carefully watched.
Now i don't know how much MentaL and perhaps others check out the new possible mods, nor do i know how much the mods are watched, so i'm not going to judge over that, but i seen a lot of people who were warned due to mods simply not liking people, and not actually because they deserved it.
She was given moderating powers because she was active in outerworld and starting to be influencial - because of that she was respected with her powers and was able to do her job.
When she first got her powers, Sipher, Dan, and I were all called racists (we shall not go into that) and she was harrassed over PM's. She was tempted to leave completely twice, but she stood her ground and continued doing her job. Mara is a really nice person, just maybe a little shy on MSN =p

And why was she influencial? Be fair, we both know that girls are popular here because they are girls, it's just that simple.
But i'm not saying she was a bad choice or anything, but if she had been a he, had posted the same things, and had posted a picture of a guy, would it still have went the same way? I very much doubt that.

Fact is the he wants this site to grow and grow, to do that you need to take a business approach so to speak, which is why i personally prefer the somewhat smaller sites, with like 100 regular posters.
In companies it works the same, if you got a small company then you advance the people you work with already most of the time, if you own a company with multiple workplaces and you can't keep a personal look onto everything (which is impossible here since the Dev sections started opening), then you need to change the way you run the place, and often that will mean taking qualified people for higher up jobs, ofcourse in those cases you get references so you know what to expect, here you don't have that.
Now MentaL took the see what happens way, whereas others might take the see how they are first way.
Ofcourse if you have to do a good check on a member with a couple of hundred posts before you moderate them, then it takes a lot of time, time which i don't think he has.
The only thing i can come up with for him, is the next time he does it that he writes down the name of the ones who seem pretty good for the job, and that he lists them all in a private section, and that the Supermods check them out, and when they are clean they can edit his post or something that he/she would be fit for being a mod, if every Supermod checks a few, then they could all be checked out.
Sucks to be a girl online. I can attest to that. One hand, you have people fawn over you just because you are/might be a girl. Something I never really understood because it's not real life, and chances are you'll never even meet them. Those people that adore you for being "a girl" will treat you different for sure, let you get away with things easier, and will generally be much nicer to you for sure.
The other hand, you have people that want you to go a step further. They want you to post pics, to chat with them on msn, to be their own internet doll. You post a picture people will want more. You post more people will want more. You will be thought of as an attention whore to the extreme, or as a Goddess on the other extreme. It's really a flip of the coin.
I have told many people I wish I didn't give away my gender on here. I'll never truly know if people liked me because of ME, or because of the prospect of boobs on me. Whatever the case, yes, girls like myself, Neo and EK before me, Mara now and whomever later, will always be praised more one way or another. What can you do? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Thats one of the reasons my friend "vonbitch" is hesitant to post any picture on here. Not because she doesn't want to get more in touch with the community, etc., but because it REALLY does change your experience on a forum.
And I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, I'm just saying that it really can suck to be a girl online, especially if you want to get any bit personal with others.
edit: The advice I can give any girl on here is to try and NOT hide behind the fact you are a girl. If you love ragezone, or whatever forum you may go to in the future, do something to help that forum; don't simply "be a girl" and get kudos for that. Although that IS the easy way out, remember if you want real attention, there is the "real world", and there the boys WILL put out :PP

I sometimes hate being girl because of the type of attention I get. It's makes me feel a bit like attention whore. One of the reasons I am always cautious putting a picture of myself online as I constantly wondering what type of reaction I get. I talk to everyone equal, sure there is a few photos I think isn't she or he good-looking but that never changes the way I talk to people.
Just it's a shame that some people don't see that side of things, just see people because they either have boobies or not. I've heard perfect examples of that when i've talked to people who i've asked what their first impressions was of me and nearly everytime they say they thought I was attention whore because of a picture I posted up.
Some say Mara got it because she was girl. That was never the case, it was because she was active.
Anyways I know this topic was for members opinions but I doubt it would change anything because some people do not have the time to check over accounts and see if they are good or not.

Lots of guys are just really sad, i mean if you are like 16-25 or something and you look good, and you post a picture then almost all the guys come after you, but even when you just let people know you are a girl, or a woman in some cases... i mean my mom used to play mir, and i still remember on official that she only ran around with a female char and she was given stuff, when it was known she was female she got even more stuff, and eventually she was in a guild, and the guildleader wanted to do a mir marriage, now you have to understand he was like 20 and she was like 43 at the time, in a serious relationship, with 3 children, 2 of which older then him at the time... then i'm like dude... wtf man, that's some twisted shit...

In any situation liek that (not just gohan doing it) The MOD has the full right to infract them. If they are lienient jbecause the person is well known, then they arent doing their job.. and if they ban on the first infraction (warning to 100%) then they arent doing their job either.
The thing I've noticed with alot of the new mods.. is that I have never seen them around providing assistance in any general forums, or even lending a hand to the community as a whole. It woudl be better for the quality side of thigns if they DID have to be a certain age and/or maturity level, have actual experience in the computer field, and also be well known (Notirous or godo behaviour wouldnt matter.. to be honest, there needs to be hardasses in the mod community.. thats how rules get enforced.)
