It does work in many cases but there are just as many where it has failed. It's more accurate to say that the result has a 50/50 chance of succeeding when you think about individual biology.

100 times doesn't necessarily mean that it'll have the same statistic if you try it on a different set of 100 pregnant women, it's more than likley that the statistic will deviate and give a completely different result.
