Actually a lot would be exactly the same. The US see's little to no change, regardless who the president is, not only are they puppets of big industries, but they also rarely hold a majority on all levels, so in the end they comprise with everything. 1. Voting reform. Electoral college = broken. Despite winning by some 2% of the popular vote, Obama has 100 more electoral votes. That's 60%/40%. The electoral college does not reflect what the people want. 2. Political party dissolution. It should not require tens to hundreds of millions of dollars to campaign for president. It shouldn't be a celebrity-like role. As a result, the party system, which stands as a barrier to entry for well-meaning and even-headed individuals, needs to go.
3. Campaign contributions by corporations should be banned at a federal level. This includes both direct contributions and mandatory wage garnishment. Corporations aren't people, and money isn't speech.
4. Tax reform so top earners aren't being taxed at a rate significantly lower than median earners. In a country where money = speech, and political contributions result in visibility, which then results in pulling millions of uninformed/gullible votes, people earning $10,000,000+/yr shouldn't be able to pay only 10% in taxes. These people should be damn near 35%, but loopholes are there to be abused. While there are orders of magnitude more median earners than top earners, if they are all paying excessive taxes, their disposable income for things like campaign contributions is extremely limited, while top earners are able to throw in huge sums of money to ensure their candidate does well, or to personally lobby for reform.
5. Lobbying should be illegal, period, and this includes back-room lawmaking. It's bribing lawmakers. It should be punished by no less than 30 years in prison for the lobbyist and any congresspeople or administrative workers found in collusion. Naturally, any congresspeople found guilty should be removed immediately from congress. All special interests and other expert contributors needed to make relevant and fair laws should be represented in public discussion, at the behest of congress, not based on their ability to pay money to be heard.
6. Debates should include all candidates and should last 5+ hours to actually be able to debate issues, rather than merely state a stance on 3 issues and say "that guy is wrong.". It's not entertainment, it shouldn't fit into your 1-hour slot WITH commercials. It's to fucking decide who should be president, you fucking moguls.
7. Promises made while campaigning should be required by contract of presidential inauguration to be met. If 95% of campaign promises aren't shown a good-faith effort, the candidate should be banned from ever serving in any political manner ever again, as should any of their immediate relatives.
8. All congresspeople should be banned from working at special interests following their terms. It is a clear "legal" pay-off. Companies found guilty should have their business licenses revoked indefinitely, and the congressperson put in prison for life. As a result, we should provide a lifetime gratuity to congresspeople for serving the country, and to prevent money from being a motivating factor when making law.
I could go on like this for a while, but basically, the corruption is so huge here, even though these seem a little extreme, they're necessary to prevent corporate ownership in government. And not a single thing on this list is going to ever happen, so you can be sure until we have a revolution, nothing will change, and no presidential candidate will change that.
You also need to realize that the president has little power. Congress makes law. Judges interpret law. The president has power, but we haven't seen a president execute their power for quite some time.
