When the universe 'started' there must have been a cause, which would mean that cause and effect existed, so when did the universe 'start'? Well, it didn't, as long as cause and effect are acting there must always have been something there.

Cause and effect is greater than God because something must have caused God to be created. Cause and effect underlies everything that happens. There is a cause, then there is an effect of that cause and so on. The trouble is, a cause can be the same as an effect too as the effect is also a cause for the next effect and so on. It's very very mind boggling.
