    Plans For Counter Terrorist Minister.

Blair urged to appoint counter-terror minister
Tony Blair was on Friday urged to appoint a counter-terrorism minister to coordinate the battle against violent extremism.

Commons Home Affairs Committee chairman John Denham said he was concerned that initiatives launched in the wake of July 7 bombings to combat extremism in the Muslim community were running out of steam.

Many members of the Muslim taskforce set up by the Prime Minister were now feeling "disillusioned" that their efforts had failed to produce concrete results.

He said the creation of a counter-terrorism minister, with responsibility for all aspects of the problem, would give the issue new impetus in Whitehall.

"One of the reasons why things lose political impetus is that actually nobody in Government is day-to-day in charge of bringing together all the elements of counter-terrorism, particularly fighting extremist, violent ideas at community level," he told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme.

"I think if you had a single minister who brought all of those elements together at a senior level of Government you perhaps avoid this problem of things being started and not seen through.

"If they ranged from a good knowledge of what was happening on the intelligence and policing side of things through to a real, hands-on involvement with the discussion and dialogue and practical work at community level, I think it would help avoid the situation where the Government launches initiatives which then peter out.

"We are going to live with terrorism for decades to come anyway, but if we don't develop these effective community strategies against terrorism we will live with it far longer than we need to."

However the senior Labour Muslim peer, Baroness Uddin, was sceptical that such an appointment would make a difference.

She said the Government needed to develop new leadership within the Muslim community.

"I don't know that ghettoising a post into counter-terrorism minister looking at policing and security and intelligence is going to empower the community," she said.

"What the Government has fundamentally failed to do and deliver is to create leadership among the Muslim community."
I Agree With The Idea Of Having A Counter Terrorist Minister, But I Am Adamant That Person Must Be Someone With Prior Experience In The Field, Like The Ex-Head Of MI5 Etc.
I Think, However, That The United States of America And The United Kingdom Should Forge A New Counter Terrorist Body, Combining The Intelligence Of Both Countries And Utilizing This Body In A More Active Role. Currently MI5 And MI6 Have No Powers Of Arrest, Have To Go Through Police Forces To Co-ordinate Searches And MI6 Are Not Even Allowed To Operate Inside The United Kingdom.

With A New Counter Terrorist Body However, Old School Rules And Conventions Can Be Disregarded. We Need A Highly Efficient CTU (Using "24" Name Now :tp: ) To Protect Our Countries Against Terrorist Attacks.

"What the Government has fundamentally failed to do and deliver is to create leadership among the Muslim community."
Excuse Me, But The Muslim Community Does Have A Leadership, The Fucking United Kingdom Government. If They Don't Accept The Government As Their Leader Then They Should Go Someplace Else.

Do you mean the Muslim Community outside of the "arab" nations? Because I think that they do need some form of leadership over there. For centuries, Islam hasn't been willing to adopt western ideology because their religion has many conflicting views with Western Culture. And like it or not, Western Culture is the future. Democracy the most powerful form of government right now and the Islamic nations still cling to their traditional power structure, which is mainly a form dictatorship. Their religion tells them that Western Culture is a temptation of "the devil" and that to embrace it would be heresy. Thus, they view westerners as "infidels" and wage a ji'had or "holy war" against the western nations. (I'm talking of course about the so-called "terrorists") In their eyes, they see western civilization as a threat to their way of life. So, they take every oppurtunity to strike at westerners and most of the time innocents are targeted as well. They cannot formaly wage a war because they have no stable government to back them up. So they resort to acts of terrorism as a form of action against western nations. They defenittly need some form of leadership.

Damn, I just wrote that for those living in the Arab nations. I don't live in the U.K. so I wouldn't know but, over here in the U.S. Bush is a complete brainless sack of shit who doesn't know what the hell he's doing.

I really doubt appointing such a minister would make any kind of difference myself.

In fact, in my opinion I dont think this "war on terrorism" trend started by george "i'm a fookin idiot" bush is helping at all. (by the way, he only started this "war" to save his own ass. he needed to show the people how good he was at punishing the people responsible for this act so the public would love him. damned nationalist americans
On the contrary. it's having a reverse effect

    Here's why:
Dont you think it's odd that since the twin towers, since bush declared war on terrorism there seems to be a lot more "terrorism"?
Extremists notice that any and every act of terrorism on the news nowadays is "hot" ever since this "war on terrorism"
It's their best publicity. So they do it. If you throw a bomb and kill off a thousand people in war territory, it's gonna be on the news and western people are gonna watch it on the news and they're gonna say "oh my god that's awful" and continue on their ignorant little lives.
Throw the same bomb in america and the impact will be a thousandfold.
"oh my god they attacked OUR COUNTRY AND OUR PRIDE!!!" chaos ensues

People are scared of terrorism. 10 years ago the definition of a terrorist would have been a character in a game or 'what the hell is that'. nowadays it's "a muslim extremist". it's all about religion! ... (it's not).
Dont shoot me for saying this, but "terrorists" arent always the bad guys. it all depends on your point of view.
The germans in world war 2 would've called any rebels "terrorists"
Anywhoo: people are scared of terrorism. so suddenly they need lots of organisation against these "damned terrorists", while in my opinion they're only increasing it doing so.
The more of a fuss you make about something like terrorism the more they'll love it.

    That's my opinion :)

P.S: this war on terrorism is doing a lot more bad than good. every damned american is paranoid of terrorism.
And then there's the other inconveniences. You carry a small pocket knife on a plain? you must be a damned terrorist. Do you really think a terrrorist would walk through a damned metaldetector with a big gun? Do you really think they will even stop 10% of the terrorism they're creating in the first place by quadrupling airport security while an 18 year old can buy a shotgun in your local american supermarket?
    Stupid random "security" measures...

All it's causing is paranoid people wanting friggin' anti terrorist ministers

P.P.S i've been mentioning americans a lot because let's face it, that's where <modern> "terrorism" started

Keep dreaming. History repeats itself and looking back, mankind makes tremendous advances during wartime. It's human nature.

people rely so much on minor things that without them they would fall to pieces, imagine a world without cars.... mah god but anyways as to terrorism, in the eyes of those we call terrorists we are the terrorists and vice versa, yet at the end of the day... its just lots of crap, war is war and religion is the biggest cause of war cos my god could kick your gods ass, yet lets see them prove it.

I think the whole idea of a CT minister is ridiculous. Not only is our society these days too obsessed with terrorists and everything that has to do with islam, the sole function of a CT minister wouldnt work.

Heres why: a Minister has to be open to the public, has to be controlled by the parliament and other government members. imo decisions and info regarding counter-terrorism should be top-secret, for if anything leaks, the terrorists hold the advantage.
