Not really a big deal...yeah she's old, and yeah he was a bit excessive, because he could have easily arrested her with a bit more muscle, and caused less of a fuss. There is no specific age that restricts taser use... so the cop isn't really gonna get any charges against him... the most he might get is a paid week off work.

Read the situation. You guys are all saying that he could have chosen a better way to handle it. How do you propose he could have controlled a lady who was going crazy? He could have beat her, but shes 72. He could have shot her but she did nothing to deserve that. She was resisting arrest and he tased her to get her down long enough to cuff her. It was his duty to protect the rest of the population driving on the roads at that time, and he fulfilled his duty by not letting that crazy loon back on the streets. You need to get the stereotype of old people being gentle and kind out of your head. This lady was going ballstic and the cop acted in the best way possible.

FYI, a taser gun emits a high voltage electrical pulse with an extremely low current. The likely hood of a taser killing you via heart attack is lower then you plugging something into a wall outlet.

So when you take into the consideration of the risk analysis of the two then the outcome would be the same. Let me show you.

Taser - woman will suffer extreme pain for short period of time, possible burning around point of contact, possible physical injuries from falling down

Wrestling - high risk of physical injuries to both the suspect and the suspect and the officer, possible discharge of the officers side arm

Now which one posses the least amount of total harm? The taser as it for the most part inflects great pain on the suspect only. Wresting posses harm to the officer and should be avoided at all costs.

Now you should also pay further attention to what happened. She physically assaulted the officer and resisted arrest. Her age means nothing when that comes into play and the officer gave her multiple warning before he tasered her. He followed proper protocols and did everything to code.

Now I would like to mention one thing. People are only upset because the suspect is a 72 year old white woman. If this was a 72 year old black man then no one would give a damn.
