Those people were born and raised in a harsh neighbourhood where they were subjected to violence, they form gangs because they want respect and attention. Most of their parents wouldn't give a fuck about their kids. They lived in a environment where it was hard to get a job or do well at school as everyone was racist, which most people still are today. They rob people, do drugs, smoke crack because it was the only way they could get money or get some pleasure out of life. They carry guns because they need them, they live in a violent environment where they needed protection against other theives and rival gangs. now as for metal, most people think metal is korn, slipknot, and static x. screaming at the top of their lungs and drop d chords... that isnt real metal its nu metal, a combination of rap AND well i wouldnt say metal, but hard rock.
here is a brief history of metal and how it came to be.
in the late 70's/ early 80's bands such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest came about with the NWoBHM (New Wave of British Heave Metal), the style usually consisted of falsetto vocals (King Diamond is a great example!) and lead guitars often with minor chord accompaniment, the style of music was revolutionary! it attracted many people of all ages, it was a fresh new sound, and this also gave birth to much of the shock factor of satan in rock and roll. the people that actually started putting satan into rock were the rolling stones but that is besides the point.
out of this came 2 very seperate waves that would change the way metal was played forever, it was the 2 different waves of black metal.
heavily influenced by occult lyrics, and often were used as a joke, bands such as Mercyful Fate (King Diamond) and Venom came about. King Diamond began to use face paint after seeing an Alice Cooper concert, but made his own style of it. Venom used growled vocals and poor production in their records to make their music sound "more evil".
just to let you know... Venom is a joke band, but were very influential and still are to many black metal bands.
later on in the 80s came the mighty slayer, they combined the fast paced flow of punk, and the riffs of heavy metal and formed what is known as thrash.
in order to attract a larger crowd the began to write extremely anti christian and controversial lyrics, this is possibly the most influential band in metal history. Anyone knows who slayer is.
from slayer came the waves of thrash, 2nd wave of black metal (celtic frost...later bathory(even though bathory was on of the starters)) after this also came the first wave of Death metal!!!! (Death, Possessed, Morbid Angel, Deicide, and Obituary)
After this came the 3rd wave of black metal in the 90s with Darkthrone, Emperor, Dissection, Immortal and various other "KVLT" bands.
then the 2nd wave of death metal (Cannibal Corpse, Vader....etc.)
this is only a rough history of the many styles!
bathory created black and viking metal.
slayer created thrash which spawned about 50 genres of metal.
and Black Sabbath created Doom Metal.
now lets see for rap....
hmmm... Crunk( shake that ass, BEYITCHH!!!!), hip-hop (ho this< MOTHA FUCKA!!!), oh... and of course regular old gangsta rap... about shooting this person, and pimping that girl and getting my dick sucked this many times...

i say not to make fun of anyones music, but in my opinion, rap isnt music. its pure shit...

What do you mean rap has no history? Rap was started by The Sugarhill Gang and NWA who was the founder of Gangsta rap. 50 Cent and G-Unit are a bunch of posers on MTV. Yes i agree some rap is just full of lame lyrics but there are many underground artists that rap about things that matter like racism. Rap isn't shit, there are millions of people worldwide who love it and i happen to be one of them. Personally i hate Metal, Rock and Emo but i respect the music.
music is something you can play on an instrument like a keyboard.. music is musical. 99% of rap you cannot play on an instrument because it is simply drum beats followed by mono-tone lyrics, therefore it is not music =P
