the further you go into the city the better then english gets, they have a reverse kind of racism over there and the more english you are the more apparent it becomes. they will try their absolute hardest to speak perfect english and most love to speak to you in english
learning japanese does help and will impress (its not actually as ahrd as people will make out) but it is not necessary at all
