Should i be worried about this?

First off sorry if this is in the wrong section. I got this 2 days ago from my ISP and i don't know if i should worry about this or not. I have completely removed all illegal media from my PC.

Uh well Utorrent it self is not a bad client, but if you have downloaded infridged things on it then yes you should we worried. I would suggest download a distro from linux, installing it wipeing away all of the evidence. And it will leave you with a nicer desktop :D

Although you have wiped your HDD, There are still programs that can scavenge deleted files.

Yes i know that. I have software that lets you see/recover deleted content. Trust me there is no way they can get anything illegal off of it. I mean if worse comes to worse i can trash it or replace before they take it...if they do.

As for getting a good lawyer....lol i'm poor.

If it was an email you have nothing to worry about. Generally ISP's will mail you warnings.

If they did mail it, all that is is a warning to stop. If you're using uTorrent they have no clue what you're downloading, they just know a lot of information is being sent/received. You also need to stop uploading so much when you're using torrents. If you upload any more then 15k/bs a second it's pretty easy to find you.

Anyway, don't worry about that letter. They're not going to sue you, they're just telling you to stop.

if you were to install a linux distro with no Partion, thoese files should not be as easily recoverd from the hard drive. And if you really dont want to get sued, get some jiant ass magnets and move them all around your hard drive, then stick your hard drive into the microwave ( no joke ). Or try and encrypt it.

Do not let your isps push you around. All you need to do is download your torrents over anonymous networks like Tor. Just do a google search for anonymous bittorrent and you'll learn how to download without your ISP sending you those threatening letters.

Re: Should i be worried about this?

I don't see how they actually got proof of you downloading this... the torrent file itself is completely legal, that's where they got the name from. What you downloaded is i believe impossible to figure out.

Afaik they have no actual proof, all they got is a file name of a legal torrent, and data being transferred.

The question remains whether they actually had all the data from the transfer, or that they just checked it out.

Torrents uses individual packages, i'm fairly sure it is impossible for them to know how big it actually was, afterall you keep getting different data from different places, it's virtually impossible to know what it is.
My guess really is that they saw you downloading the torrent file, and looked it up.

Re: Should i be worried about this?

    Simple.

Email them back saying you have a real copy of the game however it got scratched when you were moving your laptop while installing it. Since most games stores don't take back opened software because cd keys might be used you decided to just download it instead.

If they do take you to court, just go buy the game, scratch it, and tell them to prove you didn't already own it. You are allowed to copy software if you already legally own it, I assume it would stretch to downloading it?

Re: Should i be worried about this?

Strange, my ISP has never contacted me about anything I've downloaded.

I've always been told that downloading a copy of the game is legal as long as your CD-key is legit. Just use that excuse.

Honestly, what I did 4years ago when I got this message, I just took all the files I got from the torrent, and put it on a usb. My ISP from there never contacted again.

Well, you could get sued, then go to jail, then get fined $100 000. Or, you can play nicely with them, get your computer re-formated, and act as if nothing happened.

It might have been a marked file and you were caught the moment you clicked it =)
There is no need for a lawyer lol. It was an email, like stated before. If they wanted to take action they would be more formal and up front (i.e. not an email). You would have got a nice looking letter in the mail.
Personally I stick to rapidshare because torrents suck =p
i would just disregard it and continue what i was doing. Downloading things with ambiguous names and you're good to go.
