The Skype Facebook account has been hacked, and used to promote the "Syrian Electric Army".
Seems like Skype needs to find some better passwords.

Well... I'm getting of my skype.
Hehehe shit happens :p
Dude, we are talking about a single Skype account with a single password shared among quite a lot of people hosted on FB. This has absolutely nothing to do with Skype protection.
As for the spying part, first of all it's not spying, it's called getting assraped by agreements that every user has to sign if you want to use Skype, and it's done by everyone.
The internet is like a huge RaGEPARTY, you know you're gonna get assraped, the question is by whom and how many.
Both are shared accounts. They got this through a keylogger or whatever, nothing special, since bruteforce or something similar would never be able to work.
A MS employee might get fired for it, but that's all the 'hacking' that was done here. Let them hack microsoft.com, then I will be impressed, not getting a password shared by many.
I'll educate you. There are cross platform social media managers meaning one single post goes cross platform. As for their feats of hacking; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syrian_Electronic_Army

Except that it didn't go on all platforms and that the message on Skype was different from Facebook?
Even so, it still means they got 1 password.
I still don't call this hacking, I don't care how many things they've hacked, but so far it's only showing access to an account, not breaking into the server. You know as well as I do that people get stupid with passwords and that most supposed hacks, are not actual hacks.
If you check your own link, you will also notice that they 'hack' a lot of FB, Twitter etc accounts. So either those sites are extremely poor protected, or they focus on retrieving passwords.
First of all, Skype wasn't hacked here, why do you think they left a message on FB and their blog, instead of defacing the website? It's because they didn't hack the server, they didn't hack the blog and placed the message there, instead they got access to an account. Hardly impressive.Dude Microsoft got hacked before, All the vpns for Vodafone and orange and T mobile got leaked all the info and shits leaked, xbox 360 live source code leaked, more than you can think, Windows 7 source code leaked, all the microsoft employes vpns hacked what you are waiting for ! for sure skype this time!!!.
Furthermore, I said let them hack Microsoft.com, leaking shit because some people were dumbasses, is very different to actually hacking their main servers.
This is like robbing a bank where they forgot to close the vault. Sure you got in, didn't trap the alarms and all, but the fact that the vault was open made it so much easier.
So again, I'm impressed if they deface Microsoft sites, until then, they are just a bunch of guys who got some low level access to a bunch of social media accounts.
You did look at the screenshot, right? This is a likely arab hacking group that's looking for attention in any way possible. I don't know what the fuck they have to prove other than that. As you said, getting skype's facebook password isn't amazing, but it's not like microsoft has godly security. But do you think defacing microsoft's homepage is harder? In fact, I'm sure it's easier. It's mostly on the cloud as far as I know, meaning multiple datacenters are publishing the content. Get a system admin's info in any of those datacenters and you're in.
Feats like this aren't anything surprising. The only thing surprising is how stupid they are to announce they have access to the facebook account. Nice way to get millions of dollars spent on hunting you down I guess...
Hahahaha, oh wow it's so funny that a person who knows jack shit about computers and security thinks he knows how easy certain things are to hack.
First of all, in terms of security, MS is godly. That doesn't mean they can't be hacked, but their security can only be matched by a few.
Second, you are a complete idiot to think that defacing microsoft.com is easier then getting access to their Skype blog or facebook. Seriously how stupid are you? Those 2 are just for social media, this means that access to it is unprotected and will be done through regular PC's used anywhere on the world.
Microsoft.com on the other hand is 1 of the most important sites on this planet, loosing control over that site could cause massive damage to systems everywhere.
It's mostly in the cloud? Wtf are you talking about? Do you even know what cloud computing is? Cloud computing is when you put your shit on their servers, hence if MS would get hacked, users of Skydrive would be vulnerable with their files in the cloud.
Get a admin's info and you're in? First of all I'm guessing that MS doesn't allow any alterations to be made from outside their own datacenters, second how would you get the info when they would be only used on extremely well protected computer systems? Or do you think they walk around with a laptop and go edit the frontpage at an airports open wifi? Who do you think they are? How stupid do you think they are? Because if they were that stupid, then trust me, MS would get hacked daily. Or do you think this is the only hackers group out there that wants to hurt MS? Companies like MS, Google etc are the holy grail for hackers, taking them down would make you god among hackers.
How are they stupid for announcing they got access? Wtf you on about? Why would you hack an account that holds no real value (it's not like you can sell info or damage MS with releasing source code or whatever), and then not make MS look like idiots? It would have been a complete waste of time if they did that.
Pfff... the Facebook page ? The title is very misleading.
according to da picture
the hacker say micro$oft sell my hotmail account to the Government ?
so can i know how much my hotmail cost ?![]()
thank you
I know jack shit about computers and security? You're funny. Why don't you ask your buddy MentaL just how much I know about security? I cant tell if this is an attempt to hide your own lack of knowledge of security, or if you really are under the delusion that you understand security in the slightest.
Only a few... You're definitely new to security. The issue with hacking is the risk, not the difficulty. It isn't hard to get into big companies, what's hard is to do it with near 0% risk of being caught. No company has godly security, and Microsoft's morale has been in decline for around a decade. That isn't to say that Microsoft is anywhere near as easy to hack as a company like Adobe, but that isn't saying much.
Unprotected? Through regular PCs used anywhere in the world? I thought you said Microsoft's security is godly, this ain't Sony we're talking about. Regardless of what its used for, its certainly embarrassing having a public account stolen by a team of scrubby hacker from the middle east.
Have you even looked at what's on microsoft.com? It's mainly a portal page for their sales. Sure, it has downloads. But how long do you think it would take for them to notice a download got swapped? Again, I thought you said their security was godly...
Ping microsoft.com from the east coast. Now ping microsoft.com from the west coat. Now ping microsoft.com from Europe. Oh, you don't get the same IP? That essentially means its on the cloud. Seriously... this is the most basic shit.
Well that's where the whole cloud thing comes in. Seeing as its hosted in multiple locations, the group of individuals with access dramatically increases. As does their range of security expertise. As for how you would get access... Most hacking groups have large databases of info on individuals, especially individuals related to tech. Just cross reference everyone that would have access any the people they're close with. "Oh, it appears microsoft.com has a datacenter in south east asia. Also, it appears that we have the facebook account of a new system admin's significant other." See where this is going...? "I forgot the password of our shared email account, what was it again?"... You might be surprised how many people in the tech industry would be quick to answer that.
Perhaps this is where the ignorance of your response stems from. When you say hackers, are you referring to groups like anonymous and lulzsec? These groups are very similar to the one that hacked this skype, but they are definitely some of the worst hackers in terms of their ability to gain access to protected systems. They target almost everything, as they don't care what they get access to as long as it's something people will see. They probably got lucky and happened to get info on a member of microsoft's PR team.
Social engineering... Microsoft will have every employee that had access to this skype account change all of their passwords. There goes your access.
Anyways, I suppose it is a stretch saying that it would be easier to gain access to microsoft.com. However, neither is an amazing accomplishment. Try getting complete source code to WoW if you want a challenging task.
Why would I care what he thinks of your knowledge of security. The fact that you think that defacing Microsoft.com is easier then getting access to an community blog, already tells me everything I need to know.
Oh so if more people want to hack you, the site all the sudden becomes easier to hack? You hit your head or something? It makes that there are more attempts, it makes it that if there is a flaw, hackers will find it. But the amount of attempts changes nothing about the strength of their security. My statement is correct and you are obviously a retard.Only a few... You're definitely new to security. The issue with hacking is the risk, not the difficulty. It isn't hard to get into big companies, what's hard is to do it with near 0% risk of being caught. No company has godly security, and Microsoft's morale has been in decline for around a decade. Security is adjusted to the need and usage. A Facebook page for one cannot be protected by MS, it has to be done by FB, since only community sites were 'hacked', this proves that MS wasn't hacked, but a community manager had his passwords stolen, possibly due to hacking.
The simple fact is that the Skype blog works independently from the rest of the site, otherwise they would have defaced the site, instead of putting out a blog message. This only shows that they are unable to hack MS.
Yes, indeed, sales, some downloads, and their whole update system. I'm sure no harm would come to Windows PC's all over the world if it got hacked, no sir, that could not do a thing...Have you even looked at what's on microsoft.com? It's mainly a portal page for their sales. Sure, it has downloads. But how long do you think it would take for them to notice a download got swapped? Again, I thought you said their security was godly...
I did say it's godly, or do you have proof otherwise? Last time I checked, we haven't been getting updates because of hackers that messed with our PC's.
Just because their is a possibility that they get hacked, doesn't mean they are getting hacked. That's my point, so learn to read and stfu.
Dude, it's the freaking internet, of course they have loads of servers. When you spoke of saving something in the cloud, you are talking about saving your shit on some server. This is simply the internal network of MS itself.Ping microsoft.com from the east coast. Now ping microsoft.com from the west coat. Now ping microsoft.com from Europe. Oh, you don't get the same IP? That essentially means its on the cloud. Seriously... this is the most basic shit.
And yet Microsoft.com doesn't get defaced. So either all hackers are retards like you, or MS actually knows how to protect themselves. But hey it's probably the first thing, because there is just no way that the most important technology company in the world knows how to do shit like that.Well that's where the whole cloud thing comes in. Seeing as its hosted in multiple locations, the group of individuals with access dramatically increases. As does their range of security expertise. As for how you would get access... Most hacking groups have large databases of info on individuals, especially individuals related to tech. Just cross reference everyone that would have access any the people they're close with. "I forgot the password of our shared email account, what was it again?"... You might be surprised how many people in the tech industry would be quick to answer that.
Now if only you would do some proper hacking, because you would have that bitch down in minutes!
I don't care who I'm talking about, the simple fact is that none of them are succeeding, so what some guys got access to an blog, big fucking deal. This only proves that they can't do better than that.Perhaps this is where the ignorance of your response stems from.
Who gives a shit? What purpose has hacking a blog that has nothing to offer you, aside from defacing it as much as possible? This was the best they could do with it.Social engineering... Microsoft will have every employee that had access to this skype account change all of their passwords. There goes your access.
No fucking way? A stretch? Really? You mean Microsoft.com isn't easy to hack? Oh wait, no you still think it's relatively easy. And that's why I keep calling you an idiot. So many hackers aiming for MS, yet they don't succeed. Maybe, just maybe it isn't as easy as you think and just maybe you have no clue what you are talking about.Anyways, I suppose it is a stretch saying that it would be easier to gain access to microsoft.com. However, neither is an amazing accomplishment. Try getting complete source code to WoW if you want a challenging task.
But by all means take a stab at hacking MS, not only will you fail, but we will get rid of your idiotic crap.
Gohan would argue with you that the grass is blue and that the sky is just a different shade of pink... closed due to his incensant shenanigans.
