Staff are biased and that's just how this forum works. If they see a user who they haven't seen around posting that same thread, they would respond differently and that's just how people work. If they know of someone, and like someone, they will treat them differently. There is a difference with complaining about the advertisements (which the majority do) and between highlighting an issue where you can't even login due to a problem with them.
This reminds me of the Amazon forward thing aswell, no-one flamed those topics because it was an actual issue.
If you can't understand that there isn't really a bias here then you really need to take a step back. You should kinda know by now I'm not exactly bias towards anyone and I don't see an issue with the thread.

I report a bug and they start talking about special treatment. How do you not get this? Are you really as stupid as they are.
Also did you ever considered that there is a difference between special treatment and just different treatment? If a user with 1 post spams their link to their website they will probably get banned, if someone with 10 posts does it they will get a infraction, does that mean the guy with 10 posts gets special treatment?
Fact is sometimes members that been around for over a year get banned and people get all upset about it, I remember when Ramathru got banned for posting porn pics etc, we had quite a few members pissed off about the ban, even though the ban was not permanent (or atleast not the first time) and he did it again. A new member would have received a perm ban instantly without a second thought.
If a random guy walks upto you and starts shouting at you, what will you do? Tell him to fuck off? If a good friend comes upto you shouting at you? Will you still tell him to fuck off or try to find out what's wrong?
Those are not cases of special treatment, however you don't treat a new member the same way as a old member, not because they are allowed to do it, but because you know them and you know it not be normal. Or if it is normal, you atleast know why and all that. You can't expect mods to invest just as much time as someone that just registered, been around for a year, or 3 years or 5+ years. It's just not the way it works.
But like I said, it's not special treatment, special treatment would be to go berserk on someone, the one going crazy is allowed to do so and the other person gets banned or whatever.
If you would want to compare this to my topic, I reported a bug to MentaL, a mod obviously didn't read my post and made a remark about, I'm well in my right to call him on it, I expect regular users to atleast read what they are replying to, but I expect it even more from a mod who should know better.
If I were to be called on calling that mod on what he said, then it would actually mean that mod would get special treatment, but neither of us is getting any special treatment. Aka your logic fails.

It is a real issue and not just someone bitching about the advertisements, there is a difference there.
It's about the content of the posts not the actual user posting it.
If you see people b*tching at the user despite it being a real issue then report it and I'll deal with them regardless of who they are.

@Riku, Why would it have been handled different? I can tell you that if someone was reporting a bug and people would flame, those flamers would get infracted for doing so.
Even if they would be about the ads regardless of the bug, if someone makes valid points and try to think of ways so that MentaL wouldn't loose any money because of it, then it would be fine. The only way people are gonna get flamed is if they just bitch and moan without offering alternatives or whatever.
