Re: Students gunned down in America
Why is everyone dumb? Its not my fault we have a retarded leader. I couldn't vote because my age. When I can vote he wont be the one I vote for, unless we have someone more retarded to pick from. Making something illegal stops alot of people from doing it. And if you make guns illegal you would need to set up stands all around the USA and make everyone be checked for guns. And make them give theirs guns back to the gov, but they would some how need to give some $$ to the people that bought theirs leagally for taking their gun. After that burn down all the guns into metal pile of crap and reuse it on something good. But be warned, now there is no guns means other problems. Because there will always be a way to cause trouble.
..... *biological attacks* >.> *monkeys throwing poop* hehe well gtg work is in 10mins.

Re: Students gunned down in America
Well I'm sure he ment that most of the "dumb" americans are just ignorant and think they know everything and they are the so-called freedom fighters of the world. Which is just ridiculous, they supported bush going to war with Iraq, even tho most of them didn't know where Iraq is located.

thats a bit silly really, why would you need stands to check people for guns, we dont have stands checking people for guns, and no you dont have to pay people for the guns they bought, just tell them if they dont give them in then they will get fined. Gun amnesties were used in this country after they banned certain pistols, and I'm sure as hell they didnt pay anyone a penny for their guns.
Guns are designed to kill people, thats a fact, why allow people to buy a gun to defend themselves from someone else who bought a gun? when you could just ban them completely, and make the laws on owning/carrying a gun stricter, I was reading in the news that after Columbine they actually relaxed the laws on Assault weapons, Lol!
Oh and on the not your fault you have a dumb leader, I didnt say it was, but he did gain a majority share of the vote which proves that a majority of people voted to prove their stupidity! So gj America. Oh and if you say well people decided not to vote, then they're dumber than the people that did vote for Bush, and thats not an opinion thats fact. When so many people around the world die for the symbol of freedom aka the vote and like 75% of all Americans choose to not vote and then whinge about their shit leader should stfu.

Re: Students gunned down in America
As a teacher, this event saddens me to no end. I can't imagine this happening at my school, yet would anyone want to? I feel for all the victims and their families, friends...
I won't speak of the hate I hear for American's (on this thread). Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and quite frankly, it's so unimportant compared to the event that has taken place.
R.I.P.

Re: Students gunned down in America
Can the debate about guns be moved to the debate section? It's kinda irrelevant to the real topic.
Anyway, it seems that the guy walked in on the university at 7:30. He then proceeded to kill 2 people. Then it seems that the killed the other 29 at a bit past ten. Makes me wonder what he did in the meanwhile...

Re: Students gunned down in America
Well apparently it had nothing to do with being bullied or anything, and was instead because of some sort of love triangle.

Re: Students gunned down in America
Why are people praising the gun laws in America, saying they're safe and structured etc? They may well be in some states, but in others it's a different story. The laws from one state are not the same in others.
Take Virginia for example, where this shooting took place:
- There are no limitations on the sale of assualt weapons (semi-automatic weapons with large capacity magazines).
- Firearms don't need to be fingerprinted before sale.
- Police cannot prevent the carrying of concealed weapons.
- Safety-locks are not a required purchase with the gun.
- Under 18's are not allowed to posses assault weapons or handguns, but there are no restrictions on juveniles (aged 12-17) possessing other rifles or shotguns - even without parental permission.
- A license or permit is not required to purchase a handgun.
- It is not required to register your firearm with the law enforcement, meaning they have no way of knowing how many guns are in the state or where they are.
- There are no consumer safety-standards required on the guns sold in the state.
- No safety training is required for handgun buyers.
- No waiting period for a gun, however, there is a limitation of only one gun purchase every month.
- No limitations on 'private' purchases from gun shows.
- No background checks made on buyers at gun shows. "No questions asked, cash-and-carry" - so even ex-cons can get guns here no problem.
I think there's a fair few problems with American gun laws that need to be sorted. I still don't think it's a good idea to allow people to own guns, but if you're going to let them at least do it right. I'm afraid the US doesn't do it correctly in my eyes.

Gun laws have nothing to do with school shootings. And owning a gun isn't just for protection. I like to go hunting too, and that's recreational.
So don't start another thread where you bash America. It's getting old, and frankly, I'm quite tired of it. In America, we have the freedom to bear arms and defend ourselves as well as use them for recreational purposes like hunting. It's not the government's fault if some peer pressure leads to a school shooting. That's a parents fault for not taking precautions to prevent their child from obtaining a gun.
I'm trying to be as civil as I can about this because I'm trying to hold myself to a higher standard rather than start a flame war here. If you have something bad to say about America, good, great for you, but keep it to your god damn self. I don't see any news link, article, or anything like that in this thread. So stop spamming shit like this.
Finally somebody with some brains! I also hate everybody who says America sucks bla bla bla, when they've never stepped foot on American soil. That would be like me saying the French are a bunch of sandy vaginas. I also hate all the no gun tree hugging hippies out there...but that's a different story. =P (this was a joke, you take offense to it that's your own problem.)
This had nothing to do with the government so I don't know why people are bashing it to no end...People just here bits and pieces of something and go on the I hate America bandwagon.
Back on topic, it is tragic what happened, I found out about it last night around 5pm. It's the worst in American history. :(

its not 50% chance of surviving it has alot of other factors like if the person is carrying a rifle vs a handgun if you have been trained to use it or not
the caliber of the weapon is a big difference maker for instance a .44 magnum is alot more powerful then a .25 just the other day a guy down the road from me put the barrel of a .25 in his mouth and fired it and it bounced off his fake teeth and lodged in his tongue now if you did it with a .44 you wouldent have a head left
another difference is if its simi auto fully auto or you gotta cock it every time you shoot it so there a many variables that decide if you live or die in a shoot out
and in america your only allowed to own 3 handguns

and like iron maden said yes us americans have right to bear arms but there are restrictions like we cannot carry fully automatic weapons around and if someone owns one they were not manufacured in america you have to get a license to own a gun then if you want to conceal it you have to get another license both of those require extensive background checks you have to go through some shooting tests and other things
my brother also pointed out that the dude who shot up all those people in Virginia tech was Korean so im sure one of the reasons he shot up all those people was because they was all going around saying why dont we nuke Korea and giving him hell about his heritage
im suprised they didnt try to blame it on video games and rock and roll like they did in the columbine shootings
and it was 32 people dead and 33 because the shooter killed himself and yeah cheat it was the worst shooting in american history

Re: Students gunned down in America
The guy killed 2 people at 1 site, then 2 hours later killed 30 more people a km away...
To me, I have no problem with people using guns, as long as they are licenced and r the owners of it...but when they start leaving them at home thats a whole other issue, because then that gun becomes available to everyone in the home...and that's just retarded...Teach your kid all you want that the gun is bad, if its out in the open hes gonna play with it, if you hide it the kid will find it...so owning a gun in the first place is not the brightest idea, legal or not.

That's what gun safes, trigger, and chamber locks are for.
Like wounded said, leaving guns out in the open is just plain stupid. The people who leave their guns out, and have their little kids sneak in and play with it, and end up shooting themselves deserved it for not using the right precautions. And money isn't an issue when the locks are only $10-$20 each.

Re: Students gunned down in America
Trust me...kids watch movies.
I had one experience back in my country when I was 10.
I was at my cousin's home, and he was in the army.
He had a pistol on the top drawer of his room...with no magazine in it.
I found the magazine in a basket, but it had no bullets in it. I found the bullets in a drawer, and loaded the magazine with 1 bullet, the magazine was old and the spring in it was hard to push but i managed to load it... But I relized that i could accidentally do somethin stupid with it, so i took the bullet out of the magazine and never went near it again...
Im not making that up trust me, but if i wanted to get it all together I probably could have, and I wasn't as exposed to TV and internet as kids are today, especially with so much information now being on TV, Internet etc...sooner or later people could probably start making their own guns basically, with all the information they have access to.
And Locks and safes might work, but only for so long, accidents happen, and people can be forgetfull.

Re: Students gunned down in America
Video games did NOT cause this,
Poor gun control did NOT cause this (19 rounds per clip DID make it worse),
Social clicks, racism, and an unrecognized (or ignored) mental instability - more than likely, the cause
Bottom line...its a sad time, 32 students, not soldiers, not political leaders, and not grown adults...dead
The same children that our armies fight to protect, our political leaders and parents struggle to ensure their future....and 32 of these, our peers, die for no purpose of their own.
All I know right now, is its all so very sad...

I'm sorry - feels like I strolled into an NRA forum :o
But seriously though, I know it's your right to bear arms, etc. etc. etc. and a majority of Americans view guns to be used for self-defence. If that's the case, are such guns available in your local gun shop like assault rifles, automated guns and overly powerful pistols like Magnums really neccessary for 'self-defence' ?
Edit - Thought it was ridiculous when some NRA guy on the Fox channel suggested if students were allowed to carry guns on campus that this sort of thing wouldn't have happened. While that may be true as the killer would have been gunned down sooner, I cannot imagine the damages done via bullying with gun threats and other instable kids potentially stealing a gun off a fellow student... I'd say let the security have the guns at most.

Re: Students gunned down in America
Now I know why I hate America so much, and I can't understand why some here (mostly the americans) are all so positive about "owning a gun".
I'm not from the USA, but seeing how you all react on this, geesh. You're really a country on your own right?
Don't take it personally or as a flame and such, but you have to leave that "american dream" alone, for a few minutes, and try to understand what we (the outsiders) think of all this.
Still, what happened was messed up and my prayers are with the families and friends of those lost.

Why would I or any other american take it personal that you hate America? Maybe if you dont want this to sound like a "flame", you should explain that better, or leave it out.... You've just judged billions of people, and condemned them to your hatred - based on the fact you believe americans "are all so positive about owning a gun."
I HOPE what you meant by this is.... the NEWS MEDIA from AMERICA has turned this into an NRA debate. And, it's stupid for people to mourn the death of randomly killed innocent people while they are supporting semi-automatic gun sales....
I won't debate that topic here, but I will say that these kids are dead....without the rapid fire weapon, some of them would have had a much better chance of living. I'm glad you don't have these kinds of problems in your country, I guess there is a perfect government after all....whoda known.

and he left a note saying how he hated all the snobby rich kids so it had nothing to do with a gf breaking up with him and it had nothing to do with seeking attention
and for the record it was 33 people killed he was a student so he is included and a few teachers/professors were killed one of the teachers (who was a holocaust survivor) stood in the doorway giving his students time to flee while he got shot and the day the shooting was just so happened to be the holocaust memorial day or w/e

brave of the teacher to do that, shame guns are legal in u.s.a. even though its illegal over here, guns do exsist. but the street vibe round here is our fists are our guns, if you use weapons it shows your weak.
things like this are always bound to happen, life is a sturdy uphill climb and alot of people dont have the will to climb it.

Re: Students gunned down in America
Would appear the NRA's thinking is like that of a Mexican stand-off, i.e. - If everyone has guns no one would dare shoot or risk being shot at [kinda similar in a way to the Cold War where the countries had nukes but were never used, just showing it's there that if you use it we'll use it so to speak]. While that might make for a 'safer' society, I certainly wouldn't enjoy living in a gun infested society.

EVERYONE has their own opinion on it. Some of course say it's the Media; news, television, movies, games. Then there are some that think he was disturbed, angry, resentful... and there are those that think he was just a complete *insert swear words*
Some feel bad for him (wish someone had reached out more, been able to help him out), yet I'd say many more are (at least for the moment) angry and outraged at him.
The U.S. is just like any other country on ideals and opinions. Diverse. Maybe even more so than other countries as we have so many types of people and cultures. There is no cut and dry reaction or flat out belief in why this happened... truly the only person that will know is Cho Seung-Hui.
What people fail to realize is just how big the U.S. is; more so how diverse it is in race, culture, political views, etc... City by city, state by state.. You'll find radical differences in opinion (believe it or not).
Some are asking for tighter gun control (or no guns at all); though this has ALWAYS been an issue. ALWAYS. Not sure what I could compare it to with those outside of the U.S... It's always been a principal staple right in this country since the beginning... But don't think everyone agrees with it.. And though it is written in the Constitution of the U.S... States can make tighter rules and laws accordingly. Federal versus State issues, of course, get in the way. A hard subject with so so many opinions and beliefs..

Well in the VT incident it's been said your fella's been watching some violent movie repetitively, so I believe media did contribute to it. But this would only fall true to the mentally unstable and not in general.
It's up to the parents to not let their kids watch/play violent movies/games at a young age where they are still mentally maturing. All too often I see young kids playing violent video games or movies. It is NOT the media at fault, it is the lack of restriction on them by their parents or guardians.

Yes, I should have explained better. The reason I hate America is simple (my other version I typed early today, would gotten me banned instantly, so I 're-made' it), some fucked up people are running it. Bush and co, you know what I mean.
You should be able to protect yourself, I agree, but on the way its being done, makes me actually quite sick. I've seen a lot of these discussions going on, on different boards and they're all mostly the same (you know, to protect yourself, or to shoot some bulls).
Any fool that has a mental problem, could easily get the gun out of his daddies box, and use it on all kind of ways. Be it to shoot some bulls, to scare people... or to just go to a college and fuck everyone up. Right?
Granted, I watch to much media, and had to hear all about this by watching CNN, still. It's no excuse that this shit is happening. The fact that you can still get guns rather easily in a country like America, is quite sad. It still amazes me that in a culture like America's where most schools got metal detectors these cases still aren't picked up quicker either.
I have no idea what your Government is going to do about all this, but I do hope SOMETHING is going to happen. Something to minimize the problem with having guns, as in making it more difficult to obtain um. As we seen lately, they're failing miserable.
My country is full with problems also (ignore my location over there in my profile). I'm actually from the Netherlands, and in no way do we use guns to protect ourself, nor do we really need to cause those that own a gun, are either cops (those that 'protect' you), or criminals (that do harm). I'm not comparing America to us here (it's not possible anyway..), but your government could learn something from us. What, that's for them to decide.
I just disagree with pretty much 99% of what they are doing, or are going to do (same story as in Iraq, when 200 Iraki's would get killed tomorrow, no one would care "another casualty of war" right? but when it happens on OWN soil its all hands to battlestations).
Absolutely NO disrespect to those that lost there lives in Virginia this week, but that's just my opinion about all that (was actually longer, but you'd fall asleep..)

Of course, there are some people that judge things differently, and have a different view on these kinds of subjects. Guess that's why your american, and I'm dutch.
(ps. I took time to word this correctly, and by no means do I want to insult anyone, nor is it my intention).
Thanks for that...I take it real personal when ppl keep saying they hate USA without explaination or backup - from our perspective, we haven't done anything wrong, why hate us? Then I see....its our governments actions + our fantastic media = misinformed.
I think what burns me most about the general statement about people hating the US, is the fact their opinion is based on our media.
Their coverage of this incident was terrible, and did not represent the majority. I think that all these students were disrespected by the terrible coverage - I'm still sick over this.
You're right, our government has a lot of problems, just like any other gov. Unfortunately, what our media decides to cover, and how they show it - is the only way other countries have had to judge us. Honestly, people here are no different than anywhere else.
It makes me just as sick to see people die in Iraq, or anywhere - as it did with this instance. The media makes it sound like we only care if it was an "American", and that it's important that this kid that shot everyone was "Asian" - truth is, its tragic no matter the nationality - and MOST of US people agree with me on this - you have small groups of predjudice everywhere you go, and other small groups of people (like in any country) that ARE only concerned with what happens to them - in their own little world. I will say that MOST of us are NOT that way.
Gun control is a hot topic in USA too, you may not know it, they have waiting lists to get guns, can't just go in and get them. Not every house has one - 39-50%http://www.availabledark.com/~ratty/armedamerica/introduction.html of our citizens do - but they don't all agree either. USA is only 200 years old, we have a lot to learn - but the government, as messed up as it is, is always changing.
What will our government do about this incident? Probably very little - it's difficult to use one incident, even as monumental as this is, to make a new law that will take something away that people have had for so long. I'm not saying they should or shouldn't, I just don't think they will.
