Freedom of speech? You mean:
"You are free to do as we tell you!"
That's a bullshit argument, everything a comedian says during a show is considered a joke and therefore won't get him/her in any trouble (should be somewhere in the law as well).
In most scenario's (like this one) people start to come up with the freedom of speech argument. That's just a pathetic attempt to blame the government for something, simply because they somehow dislike the government (though most of them voted and are too damn stupid to do anything themselves). Because, what if that guy actually did grab a couple of guns and slaughtered a dozen people? Exactly, people would be all over the government because they didn't respond to his message on Facebook.
You're entitled to your own opinion, but don't be like the billion other people that just want to blame someone for taking the right decision.
I'm not sure anyone understands freedom of speech go someone where that no one is free stay awhile, see if you like it. Then come back and bitch about how terrible the laws are here... Also it had nothing to do with comedians when you can find a stand up comic that has a real joke about killing children and eating their still beating hearts, then you sir may have some sort of fight. Until then your wrong and the US government was right, sorry.
Freedom of speech is used rather loosely. You have all the freedom in the world to say what you want, when you want. UNTIL you start infringing on someone else's right, and or speaking harm to them. It's in the constitution. In no way shape or form does freedom of speech give you the right to say you're going to kill someone. That's not freedom of speech. It's a threat, and is ILLEGAL. What the kid did may have been a joke, but this is the internet. Context is borderline non-existent. Ergo it was seen as a legit threat, and action was taken.
Like other people have said before. If the same kid did what he actually said, and no precaution was taken like so, then people would be bitching and complaining about how the government didn't take the correct action.
Sure it may not be fair, but tough shit. The internet is turning into this thing where people think they can say and do what they want simply because they're "anonymous". Shit doesn't work that way, and it seems like the government is starting to take action towards proving it.
TL:DR - Even though this is the internet, you are still accountable for your actions. It doesn't give you free reign to do/say what ever the hell you want.
This kid's life is now ruined due to this immature woman. Some people take things way too far, this being one of them. I'd like to know who this woman is because I'm from Canada and it makes our country look bad. Once an employer goes to look at this kid's criminal record check, he won't be getting hired or employed because most employers will not accept the fact that it was over a joke and completely ignore the kid who has to make a living to get money and survive in his life. Just my opinion..
That's not weird at all. Kids can do sick things without even thinking of the consequences. I've heard of 13 year old killers before, as well as 10-14 year old rapists.
First result from Google, Eric Smith - 13 year old American boy. Killed a four year old boy by dropping large rocks on his head and afterwards he undressed his body and sodomized him with a tree limb. I think using a gun to shoot someone would be a lot easier to go through with.
It's so funny :D I would be caught for killing whole world :/
Shiet!
Point them to 4chan, see how long it takes them before they declare war on a website.
Did you notice the comments, people are fucking retarded this is the internet now and it's always been about dark jokes people need to harden the fuck up, those who cannot take the joke take life to seriously, I mean yeah it was cold and dark kind of a joke but it's standard this is what's said on the interwebzzz, yet dumbfuck clueless retards assume for the worse and decide to ruin some kids life, people who are agreeing with the charges wouldn't be the same if it was happening to their child.
The kid will more then likely be set free. One major being, you can't jail someone for something they haven't done, though I'm sure it's different when it comes to terrorist type shit. It's like calling someone and saying I'm going to put an axe to the back of your skull. You call the police and report that, they won't do a damn thing. Why? Because they can't. That person hasn't done anything to you, even if it is a threat. The most they can do is post a cruiser's route along your street for a little safety, and hell, they might not even do that.
Let me just say this.
In a situation where he didn't expect a woman from Canada or really ANYONE would give a shit and do this to him, he already disowned the fact the fact that he would actually go and shoot up a school, which already proves his motives of denying he was going to do anything were out of his own will, not due to the current situation. Secondly, he said it in such a sarcastic way and of course apologized for it right after.
The FBIs time is not worth a situation so stupid, this woman already made the mistake in doing that.
I was in a similar situation.
Said "Sometimes I want to kill you all" (of course in a sarcastic, laughing way, my classmates knew I wasn't serious) and hooked myself a court appearance, 1 month absence from school, and thousands of dollars in lawyer and psychologist bills. The only pyschologist the school would allow us to visit at such an early notice charges 500 dollars an hour, and they wanted me to have close to over 30 hours of psychology on a single parents budget. Infact I have to go see Dr. Douchebag (the dude who gave me my evaluation) today to get the meds the school also wants me to take verified again.
This world is stupid, we all know this.
