It's rather simple really.
You say that if you're in a car, the car doesn't accelerate relative to you.
Well in fact that's wrong. It does accelerate relative to you, it's just that your seat is stopping you from falling behind.
If something doesn't accelerate relative to you, you wouldn't be effected.
But in a car, or on the earth, you are.
There's just something which counter-acts the acceleration.
The car DOES accelerate relative to you, for you have no speed of your own, and the ONLY thing making you go along with it is a seat, which acts to counter the effects of the acceleration.
