10:00pm: Iowa goes to Barack Obama; Utah goes to John McCain. Neither result is shocking.
9:58pm: John McCain has added Texas's 34 electoral votes to his total. Texas is the largest state that the Republican candidate is expected to win in this election (Obama leads in the polls by more than 20 points in California, the only state more populous than Texas).

6:45pm EST: The results of today's Obama-McCain presidential election will begin to emerge at 7pm, as polling places close in Eastern states. We will call states for the candidates only after the polls in those states have closed, and we will do so when we feel that a consensus exists between several well-regarded election watchers.
The final poll results from Real Clear Politics this morning projected an Obama win, with the Illinois senator taking 278 electoral votes to McCain's 132. 128 electoral votes were in the toss-up category.
