But there has to come a point where it just gets meaningless. If you are going to thank your parents, then what about their parents? and the rest of your ancestors. For that matter what about all the people who had effects on their lives in order for them to meet and procreate. My gran and grandpa met because of WW2, should I be thankful for those who started it? Without that war there is 0 chance I would have been born. I doubt there are many of us here who would be the same without the wars of history, should be all be thankful for those who started them?Quote:

It is hyperbolic. Nowhere in my post did I suggest anybody should show personal gratitude toward each and every factor that contributed toward their existence. That's ridiculous, and you're putting words in my mouth with things like your first sentence above. What I suggested was that a general appreciation for the fact that you didn't get here on your own, and acknowledgement that there were many factors at play in bringing about your personal situation, are decent qualities to have.
