    Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

    http://www.vhemt.org/

Q: What is the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement?

VHEMT (pronounced vehement) is a movement not an organization. It's a movement advanced by people who care about life on planet Earth. We're not just a bunch of misanthropes and anti-social, Malthusian misfits, taking morbid delight whenever disaster strikes humans. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Voluntary human extinction is the humanitarian alternative to human disasters.

We don't carry on about how the human race has shown itself to be a greedy, amoral parasite on the once-healthy face of this planet. That type of negativity offers no solution to the inexorable horrors which human activity is causing.

Rather, The Movement presents an encouraging alternative to the callous exploitation and wholesale destruction of Earth's ecology.

As VHEMT Volunteers know, the hopeful alternative to the extinction of millions of species of plants and animals is the voluntary extinction of one species: Homo sapiens... us.

Each time another one of us decides to not add another one of us to the burgeoning billions already squatting on this ravaged planet, another ray of hope shines through the gloom.

When every human chooses to stop breeding, Earth's biosphere will be allowed to return to its former glory, and all remaining creatures will be free to live, die, evolve (if they believe in evolution), and will perhaps pass away, as so many of Mother Nature's "experiments" have done throughout the eons. Good health will be restored to the Earth's ecology... to the "life form" known by many as Gaia.

It's going to take all of us going.
Q: Is this another one of those suicide cults?

Seems as if our entire industrialized civilization is one big suicide cult. The symptoms surround us.

We propel our bodies about in fragile metal boxes, at potentially fatal speeds, without much care or reason.

We ingest so much poison that meat from our bones wouldn't meet government standards for pork.

We pull strands from the web of life, jump up and down on it, and expect it to hold our ever-increasing weight. Few notice there's no safety net.

Instead, we could be embracing life: voluntary human extinction offers a healthy cure for humanity's collective death wish.

"The destruction which has overtaken a number of civilizations in the past has never been the work of any external agency, but has always been in the nature of an act of suicide."

    ~Arnold Toynbee, "A Study of History", 1949.

    Unfortunately, he has a point..

Unfortunately for him, the point has been made time and time again, only not as bluntly as how he put it.

By the way, I think I should add, this would completely defeat the nature of "evolution" (whether you choose to believe it or not). If as they say, humans are a species who "evolved" an intelligence, then in fact, we are what "evolution" told us to be. That implied, by inacting self extinction, that would leave us to believe that "evolution" will infact, bring back another species that has the capabilties as we do now. However, that may be wiped out by an outer power (like a huge meteor), which would destroy everything that nature has put into play. But if we're still here, we can prevent that. Just a thought, it has flaws in it (like a person's animalistic instinct to reproduce, IE to extend their genes as much as one can, a trait found in all animals. seriously.)
