i was talking to my one of my teachers from last year the other day, and he was a builder before he became a teacher. after graduating he got an apprenticeship as a builder and started doing that. he was telling me that before going to uni and becoming a teacher, his last paycheque as a builder was over AU$150,000.00. now as a teacher he earns about 1/4 of that.
in the past you would have been looked down apon for not getting a university education, but nowdays people have come to realise that the real money lies in the manual hands-on work which university just cant provide.
