    What do you think?

I want to know what you guys think about this situation,

A student at my school made a website from www.myspace.com and had content on it that students wrote about teachers. So, the teachers found out about it, tracked the IP address from the user that created the website..tracked it to the students computer and punished him. He got expelled for the rest of the year. He did not make the website at school...he made it from his pc at his home. Do you think he deserves getting expelled? why?

In my opinion, I dont think they should get expelled in any way shape or form. Making that web site is there decision and that is there private life. Teachers are just big people with magnifying glasses crushing all the little ants in there way, which would be us..the students.

    Give me your opinions.

Schools in USA have to abide by the rules for that country so in essence they are abiding by the countries rules.

Had a very similar thing 2 years ago...
me n some friends had a humoristic site (humor in a positive way, nothing possibly offending)
    about one of our teachers.
The school head found out, and it took a whole week of our parents talking into the school council to convince em not to punish us.
The teacher could only laugh about it.

how did they traced the ip ? ISP gaved them ?

if he got to myspace from the school , well then its something , if not then its another

Since that guy is from the US ( since only these shit happens there ) you sure that guy cant SUE the school or the isp or the host ? for releasing his ip , data ?

If only him got expelled and the people who also posted the comments , its kinda odd :P

If he posted a pic of the teacher he deserved it and could have got in even bigger trouble.
Just by saying somthing silly on sombody as long as they find it offencive they can get them in trouble the teach could have made him get much bigger problems then just being expeled from school.
When you make a personal web site the contents must be of yourself or if the ppl agree to be on it or you will be going against not only the shcool law but the general law.

And Akaruze no he cant sue them since if you just request from the ppl the ip adress since there is contents about yourself your totaly alowed to he shoudl just be happy that the teache didnt complain to the police.

im sure schools in every country have to abide by their laws

what im saying is the school could have had rules against this sort of thing, they wouldnt have to be laws just rules that students have to follow or risk punishment

The thing is I don't beleive that one very bit if it was a public school. If it's a public school then the student deserves the right to an appeal infront of a judge which will simply over rule that on the grounds of the government has no control over the content of the web and therefor has no right to deny the student his education for something that has happened else where. Never the less the student is practicing his freedom of speech which futher protects him.

If it is a private school then thoes rules do not apply and the school reserves the right to expell the student at their descression.

The only way for the school to trace it as I know of is for them to contact www.myspace.com and request the IP. Then they need to contact the ISP to give them the name and address of the user of their IP. Which is a privacy infringement. Therefor if they were to do that then the student's parents can easily sue the ISP for providing their personal information to a 3rd party.

The only schools in the states that can punish people for things like that are private schools where they have their own set of rules outside of the standard government issued ones.

Even then it is highly unlikely for them to actually find the person who did it since it would have to involve them doing unlawful things to actually find out who.

    NoPeace - out

it all depends on HOW he mentioned the teachers name.

e.g- if he posted "Mr.William is a faggit" then there could be a THOUSAND Mr.William's and hence he can argue that he whas refering to someone else.

but if he posted "Mr.William the faggit english teacher at mangina high school is gay" then he is a fucking tool and deserves it lol cos its so obvious who hes talking about.

Mmm, you're all forgetting something here: even in the US (where strange things happen I hear :D) its still illegal to publicly offend someone. What do you think would happen if he put a big sign in his front lawn saying 'My english teacher is a fucking morron!'? He would probably not only be expelled, but just as easily be prosecuted for slander.

Now, the internet might seem anonymous, but the same basic rules apply there! Hell, I think a good website probably pulls more views then a sign in someones front yard! Now why the hell should he not be punished for that?

Yeah I know I sound unfriendly, but damnit people, grow up. Too many bloody idiots think that just because they're online it means they can insult others or even threaten them. Too many kiddo's who in real life never would even dare speak to me (me being a rather large metalhead :icon6: ) try insulting me when I close their topics, instead of acting like a normal human being. Grow up!

Lastly: if you dislike a teacher or the way he teaches, go to the schoolboard. More effective then posting slander on a website and more civile as well.

I find it amusing that you feel he shouldn't be expelled because the website he made featuring the teachers at his school is his business. Hello? Teachers have private lives too you know, and they don't have to put up with the shit kids write about them on the internet. How'd you like it if the teachers made a website featuring all the pupils, and teachers left comments about them? I doubt the comments left by the students were all nice ones, infact I'd put money on the fact that they were getting the piss ripped out of them.

I'm not sure if expulsion was the right course of action - but what's done is done.

That's very true and basically saved me from typing :D. But, some teachers are assholes and deserve no less but to be shot in the head. =). If they were insulting them on this website. It's probably because the teachers were assholes so who the hell cares?

I dont think they should be going after someones IP, unless he was posting bad things against them that was not true. Now if he told the truth then they cant do anything about it. So over all I think he should be back at school with the site if its all truth, without pics because you cant show a pic/movie without the person's say so (I think).

I'm not talking about they privet lives, but people can say what do they feel or think about the teacher.
I'm not saying thats normal to enter to privet live but don't you ever think something about your teacher? Did you never share it with your friends???
If you think that she is ugly or she is butty and you can't say it in your school then you can enter to some forum or web site and there under nike name you can wright all what do you think about her.
Admin of this forum/site was HAVE to manage it, delete all "bad" masages or masages wich have any privet information about the teacher.

I'm not saying that he was 100% right i just trying to say that you don't need to juj him too much.

If he did think about how to make suffer to his teacher and publish they lives then they do right and not enoth uponishment.

So you're essentially saying that if I kill the president, rob the local bank, deliberately cause fourteen forest fires that destroy thousands of homes, burn down the local school, and raid the nearest Exxon because I got pissed at the fraudulant gas prices my argument in court could legally be that I chose to "ignore the law"?

The United States is quite obviously a country you know absolutely nothing about, so don't come on here and say "the us sucks" until you get your info straight and know what the hell your really talking about.
