Looks dope with it :) And it is functional...its not just for looks...at speeds above 50 it creates downforce for better traction. Which helps a lot in AutoX

Friend with a s2k has a giant ass wing on the back. Going over 100 you can feel the ass end of the car being pulled down.

Re: What kind of car do you drive? (If you do...)
Yea fixing to have to do some suspension work on her...lowered her a few months ago and now my rear end is moving back and forth during hard turning. Buying a panhard bar next week to keep them tires centered :) When I hard corner left all is golden...but when cornering right my traction control goes into hyperactive mode and slows the car down.

Lower control arms could help a bit with that as well.

Considering going with the entire BMR rear suspension package....the new DWS06 tires I got are bigger than my old ones (285/35/19) and the new footprint is really throwing the car a curve ball...the package with the panhard bar only comes to around $500

Same with my friend's E36. He has one of those big ass GT Evo wings. You can feel it push the back end down at about 80mph

I'm actually very impressed with the front end...Ford did a good job on the S197.....I get no understeer unless I really hit a corner too hot but it's minimal and recovers quickly....it's just that ass end....man shes a PITA!

Re: What kind of car do you drive? (If you do...)
Just got a Mk5 Golf 1.9 TDi the other week. Standard just now but will be doing a bunch of shit to it over time. At the end of this month I will be putting it on its arse, giving it black rear lights, angel eyes, tinted windows and a nice set of BBS'. Soon will be getting it remapped and of course uprating the flywheel and clutch. Tempted to put a hybrid turbo on it and of course uprate the fuel pump, injectors etc along with a miltek catback exhaust.
This picture isn't of my particular Golf, but it is the same model however this one in the pic is a GTI. This is the kind of shit we drive in Scotland and of course its fucking manual.

It's my daily driver and my "guinea pig" for repairs. I'm new to cars in general (one year as a parts technician at a Volvo dealership), and just realizing how expensive it is as a hobby! So far I've replaced front pads and rotors, a cam seal/valve cover gasket, and timing belt myself.
Mods:
K&N Short Ram Intake
Kenwood Deck
Alpine Speakers
350w Alpine Amp
2 10" Subwoofers
Saving/searching for an EVO VIII if I can find one in Canada, but they are all modded to shit and usually by people who don't know what they are doing. May just get an EVO X for the peace of mind.

Couldn't pass up the deal....Ford is running 0% financing for 72 months on most of their new cars till Sept. 8th. So she got a brand new car and is paying only $20 more a month than I am for my used car.....which kind of irritated me LOL

My shit piece cost me £400. Maintaining the car is the expensive part. Tyres are the most common.

£3400 for mine, but I haven't had to do anything but replace 1 tyre (which got a huge nut stuck in it) and an oil change. Oh, and £100 ERG valve replacement.

For me it's been,
Countless tyres,
2.5 litre engine (£250),
New dashboard,
Too many driveshafts,
2 differentials.
Those are pretty much the most expensive parts anyway.
And so much more that has killed my wallet.

My old car was basically falling apart. The guy who wrote it off did me a favour. Id rather have a car where I don't have to do anything to it lol.

What a rip off.. Is that full insurance though cause for that car anything but property+body damage is a waste.
Get bodily injury liability and property damage liability as the excess for complete insurance will most likely be more than your cars worth. Shop around too.

Actually, insurance goes off the car you get more so than your age. (Age of the car, how rare the car is etc).
I made an insurance quote on a 1.1 litre Citroen Saxo then made a quote on a 1.9 e30 BMW and the beemer was much much cheaper for annually paid classic insurance.
-
Re: What kind of car do you drive? (If you do...)
Though different countries I am in the low ages range too with an oldish car and it was $1000/year cheaper for bodily injury liability and property damage liability which is around the value of your car. Worth checking.
-

its not a rip off at all. Hes what, 17 or 18, male, had a licence for less than a month, got a fiesta....
He ticks all the boxes for totalling his car.
(soz @Lewis)
-
Re: What kind of car do you drive? (If you do...)
You would have to be a risky driver, not understand road rules or be very unlucky for your car to be totaled not just scratched/dented before 1 year is up..

It's a Fiesta. You could ram it into a wall at 60 and it would probably still drive.
-

yeah just buff it out when you get home and your set.

anyone owns a Tesla EV car?
Also, how much is the government tax based on your country to purchase an imported car?

Re: What kind of car do you drive? (If you do...)
In America, You keep high insurance for 3 years, before it goes down.
That was my experience when I first got my license.

In England it is a number of factors. If I was to be insured on the same car at 17, my insurance would be cheaper because im female (a stupid ass rule imo), same car, at my current age, will be cheaper, same car with my no claims bonus, cheaper.

That's not how it works either. As long as its just bodywork damage you can get away with not letting your insurance knowing. If you have any damages which means your car will not run, you either go through your insurance and pay the excess only (I am assuming that @Lewis would be 3rd party theft and fire, so wouldn't get repairs done) or pay for all the repairs yourself.
The insurance would then tally to see if the repairs are more than the car, and if so, would write the car off. Someone drove into the back of my car while I was stationary, and he was going 10mph. The car was written off.
Were in England and insurance seems to work on a whole different level here.
Edit, they also make it all up.
I did a comparison for my insurance. 2 weeks ago, it was £580, last week it was £545.

Re: What kind of car do you drive? (If you do...)
@ChewBecca Do they offer gap insurance there? IE: Youre paying on a car note, it gets wrecked. The insurance company states the car is worth less than what you owe. So you end up paying on a car that is wrecked. Gap insurance covers the difference.

If you pay in full you get a refund for the remaining months. If you pay monthly then you have to pay a cancellation fee. There may be add one to protect against paying this fee, but I always pay in full to save money.

Re: What kind of car do you drive? (If you do...)
Usually where I live, if you buy a car you put the ensurance on the name of the parents so that you don't have to pay that much.. Then when time is ready you transfer it to your own when you reach a decent age and the insurance price will drop.
How'ever, i'm currently learning driving so i don't have a car yet ;)

That's called 3rd party cover. Basically if you have a crash, it will cover the other person but not yourself. It's common over here too in the UK, a lot of traders policies (like my own) do this as well.

Depends on what insurance you take, half or full insurance but that most likely depends on the state of you car the moment you buy it.

The more 'careful' drivers take 3rd party. Normally if the accident is the other person's fault, their insurance will cover you anyway.
