about those pics, yea some really strange thing. Looks like a mantis had an offspring with a butterfly and a worm!
They can change their coloration to avoid predators or to better snare their victims.
I think some spieces may have wings but not so much atractive has those on the picture... that would just screw the hole camouflage advantage they have...
