yup yup. i'm a sucker for saying to myself "i'll save my work when i'm done"
more often than not i'll prob kick the power socket just as i'm about to save and them punch my monitor as i loose all my work >.>

also verry anoying is that i have to save everytime i plug something into my comp, cos my comp likes to restart whenever i put something in the USB posts :(

Aww man that sucks ass... I feel your pain. Try to think of it as a lesson, if it helps any.

I didn't lose anything priceless like that, but over the weekend I got my HD all messed up, lost some random 30gb worth of files and probably 50% of what's left are all mixed up, like a music file might contain parts of several others, most vids won't play, I guess none of the cd images function, every program requires a re-install... Basically everything I've collected over the past 5 or so years is ruined. Afterwards I'm just thinking I probably should've already backup'ed all my personal files, like I was going to at some point.. which is probably what you're now thinking too. "Why oh why didn't I click save just 5 minutes earlier!!"

Computers are such valuable tools we've become dependant on them, and when they choose not to co-operate we're left with nothing. Among others, having my high-level Mu character hacked years ago gave me a lesson though: whatever you do in life, do it so that the result isn't all there is to it. Strive for self-improvement, because then when everything else is lost you still have the most precious thing left: yourself and all your abilities. This is one of the reasons I gave up on mmorpg's a few month ago: other than temporary fun they gave me nothing.

    Autosave indeed..

I used to work at a CAD/CAM company, make construction drawings of buildings etc. Computers there weren't state of the art, but they did have this AWESOME A2 tablets (imagine your entire desk being 1 big drawing tablet, now THAT kicks ass :D) so all in all pretty good working situation. If it weren't for 1 minor flaw: for some reason, one of the computers would bug once in a few hours and you'd lose everything you'd have drawn...

Ofcourse that costed so much the thing was replaced within a week, but not before I learned a hard lessen that auto-save IS in fact a life-saver :D Especially when the constructors are already laying the foundation and they REALLY need the drawings the next day :icon6:

But since I code never had that trouble again.. Especially PHP will only show you the results of what you've coded once you save it (same with JAVA and C++ btw), so I automatically ctrl-s / F2 (depening on what environment I work in at the time) every few minutes, half an hour at max.

And disk crashes are for people who are too bloody ignorant of their SMART state and don't do backups :D
