On subject : The reason there will be no PS4 or "xbox 720" for many more years is because there is no need for them. Gaming technology has reached its peak (for now) and there is absolutely nothing more they can add to a new console if they do make it.

Graphics have come along way since the SNES, and with each console the graphics are getting better. But now, the graphics have come to a stand still. They quite literally can not get any more realistic until better technology has been developed.
Sure, they COULD make a new console. But why would you buy it? The games are the same, the games will look the same, the controllers are the same... what, people are going to pay $800+ for the same console but in a different case? there is NOTHING more they can put in it to justify making a new console.
All of this is based off a statement made by Microsoft themselves, when they were asked when the new console will be out. They quite blatantly just said that there is nothing they can improve on, and i agree with them.

Except for the fact that Sony refuses to add backwards compatibility for ps2 games on all but 2 of their older PHAT systems, that not many have due to the price of them at the time being out of the roof. Gaming technology may be at it's peak but some system are still lacking simple features that could of easily been added without much trouble. How hard is it be to put the Emotion Engine, or Emulator into a ps3? :|
I don't see how letting it play OLDER games is somehow going to benefit future technology. Backwards compatibility is not as simple as it sounds, you actually have to manually create a compatibility code for each and every game. That is why the xbox 360 has LIMITED backwards compatibility, because they have only created compatibility codes for the most successful games.
There is on money to be made in paying people code software for games nobody plays anymore.
