Anybody catch this on Discovery - Science? Its now been proven that its possible to travel through time, the way in which it works is using the speed of light.. Now the devise you use to travel cannot be used to travel to any date specific , only a date in which the machine has been operational.
Keep an eye out on discovery science and watch it.

I really wonder if traveling time in this context means what we expect based on sci-fi movies...
It's probably something to do with reliving your memories or something. Like somehow they can force your brain to virtually relive your past?
No all wrong, hard to explain but its all physically possible and being developed.

I dont see the logic in the post.
I think time travel would create two parallel universes that is A) the universe that you came from and B) the universe you made in a sense.
I think of that cause I don't wanna dissappear cause someone went back in time and killed my parents or something
The show goes into detail about going to your past and trying to chance someones life and it states that its not possible for one reason or another because its determined by the past and present already;

Did you not read what he posted...he said the only way points in time can be set after the time machine is made..therefore you can't travel to a time before the machine came into existance.
I still find it weird...If I was to travel back in time, what would be happening to the present (you guys)..meaning if i traveled back in time and killed someone important, or stopped something important...it wouldn't alter your guys present at all...it would only the world im in...
I unno...this is way too confusing...i really don't think its possible to make a time machine unless every time someone went into a time machine it created a dimension for themselves...
i would like to know if i go back and kill my parents would i still exist? cuz if i go back before i was born i kill them,then i wasing gonna born,so if i dont exist how can i go back and kill them? :S
and if timechine works dont you think that someone in the future would come here to kill someone or whatever? or they do it all the time and we dont know cuz each time they do it our memories go to the new time they made. xD
Time travel? Pffttt... It's not real and never will happen.
Faster you go = the slower time will EFFECT you
That infact doesn't mean you are actually traveling though time but the effcts of time lessens on you.
So when you do actually hit light speed. Time will have no effect on you. Where as time will continue to run. So in reality you are just in suspended animation just frozen in time. You are not traveling it because it's still happening. The only thing that will happen is that it will no longer effect you (like the statis chamber on Red Drawf).
So what about traveling back in time? Aint going to happen. Even though in theory if you manage to travel faster then the speed of light you should break the bounds of time. It just wont happen because at the speed of light time will stop for you. Animation will stop and nothing will effect you. So you'll just be suspended at the speed of light and time will continue as normal until you are no longer traveling at that speed. So all that will happen is time will continue.
So for all of thoes set on space travel with light speed it just wont happen. It'll take years to travel anywhere. It wont seeem long for you traveling seeing as you'll be frozen in time but time will still continue and by the time you go visit someone they'll be long dead years upon years ago.
But there is hope. Wormhole is the only way to travel though space efficently. They exist naturally in spacetime. They simply bend or "fold" space and time. What do you think a "Hyperdrive" from Star Wars is? It's a fold device. It generates a worm hole of a given size to anywhere in the galaxy. The hyperdrive classes are done on the basis of how long of a hole it generates. This method of travel isn't that far fetched. NASA and the DoD are actually working on them and are only unable to complete them due to energy issues. The ammount of energy required to operate such a device simply doesn't exist. Nuclear power simply cannot provide enough energy, but there is actually hope. Cold fusion development of China isn't far off from completion. The Chinese have a prototype generator nearly finished and should start testing by December. Knowing that the Chinese are the far in development (and publically displaying it) only means that the US's is most likely in the Prototype stages (you are talking about making a weapon far greater then a Nuke, something powerful enough to destroy the planet in a single go). So it's only a matter of time before you start seeing deep space voyages into space.
Within the next 20 years space travel will be big. Just don't expect much. The first fold device wont cut the distance down to that in which light can travel it, but just like all technologies. It will just grow in speed exponentially. Over the next 100 years you'll be seeing people getting across the galaxy in the matter of a few years.
