Clearly you could not. You fail to understand the real effort in managing a gaming community. Don't get me wrong, its WRONG to take money but to say server owners that bust their asses, backs and hands for a small amount of cash are the scum of this community is a little harsh, isn't it? For example you as a super mod here don't gain 1 cent. But what if you were forced to be here and deal with everything? Would you still give RZ 10hs a day for free? Would you be able to do what all smods, Dan, Exy and all mods do ALONE FOR FREE?. Would Dan be doing this for free? Would you say he is the biggest Scum of all? Getting money from people that use files for illegal purposes and make more illegal money? Should Dan remove all ADS that contain servers with donation systems? What about the Ads on top of the forum? Mostly paid with money gained from players! Scum!
There is no Robin Hood complex here. You and me work to bring the best illegal server hosting experience. People, out of our work, make illegal money. Should we quit RZ? An old president from Argentina said this:
Quote:
Dentro de la ley todo, fuera de la ley nada.
Within the law everything, outside the law nothing.
What makes you able to choose who is the scum? what is the real crime and what isn't? We are all doing terrible things here. We all know this forum is made so others can break the law (any kind of) so the scum is us. You, me and them. Not me for using cash to pay my Internet, nor to buy an hdd or take my gf out to dinner. You too. We all are.
So you don't like drug sellers but you keep their house clean and organized so drug addicts can find and enjoy all possible ways to break the law? :/: And cause you do it for free it's different?
Re: WoWscape 89 million dollar lawsuit
1. This is Blizzard's M.O. When people take a game into their own hands, they get the army of lawyers ready for a mass lawsuit and ask for 100x more than they may be able to argue the actual damages were.
2. In reality, the damages are $0. This is for the same reason that piracy doesn't hurt the sales of a product. You cannot argue that "because someone plays a private server" that they would've been a paying customer for that period of time. You can make a compelling claim that this is the truth, but it's far from it. Sadly, most judges are retarded and will believe that 1 person playing a pserver = 1 paying customer lost for Blizzard, and award some insane damages to Blizzard.
We have the 8th amendment to the US constitution here that limits excessive payouts in cases like this, at least in case law it has (including vs the RIAA for gross copyright violation, where they asked for an insane amount of money). Let's hope the judge pulls that down to like $200,000 which is much more reasonable, or just completely throws it out altogether. You can be sure the EFF will either assist here or file an Amicus Brief to point out why what Blizzard is doing is a huge violation in personal rights (just like with the bnetd case).
Re: WoWscape 89 million dollar lawsuit
Wow, you're all imagine this in a bad way.
But think about it :
Get a Wow-emulator off internet, pay around 300$ a month for a server.
and get in return 500.000$.
And that all just by sitting and going on the internet.
Holy shit dude.

If WOW is smart enough, they will appeal the fine arguing that it is a violation of the 8th amendment. If that doesn't work, take it to the supreme court, they will probably get a fine of a million or something.
Re: WoWscape 89 million dollar lawsuit
if she only has to pay like 1mil she still has that other 2mil.
so I would suggest to blizzard just get that 3mil and get over it.
Problem solved?
I don't get why they make such a big deal out of it.
89mil moneys O,o
I wish I had that to make a game rofl :)
plus if you think about it.
BLIZZARD MAKES: 14mil players x 15 dollar = 210000000 dollar a MONTH!~!
So what will this 89mil mean to them?

That would be true, if she hadn't made $3mil. When you are making that much the *it isn't costing them anything* defence is gone.
Re: WoWscape 89 million dollar lawsuit
Fucking crazy... she should of been hosting in russia =x
Re: WoWscape 89 million dollar lawsuit
WTF 89mil...
How can she pay this much and they say she had made damages to them, probably she has done nothing.
The judge seems fked up. how can she make a 89mil dollars.
I will agree to pay 89mil dollars IF they let me leave the server open and i get donations to pay for the 89mil dollars.
I rather get fking locked up all my life rather than paying 89mil. if i have 89mil ill be living in earth? Obama can't pay that.

It's not gone.
She earned that money from one-off donations or people buying items. Plus whatever revenue she earned from ads.
Neither of which can be done on Official WoW.
You can not argue that someone who is willing to donate $5 to a private server would want to pay $15 every single month to play on the official server. Official servers ad private servers target very different markets.

Re: WoWscape 89 million dollar lawsuit
She got greedy and paid the price in the end.
EDIT:
Or I should say...
She got greedy and will be paying the price over the rest of her life
Re: WoWscape 89 million dollar lawsuit
Re: WoWscape 89 million dollar lawsuit
does she deserve the sentence? yes i do believe so since i know its hard to argue since its tecnically donations. people do choose to give her that $. but she is selling or giving them rewards ingame which she has no ownership off. so any donations made to her seeking a reward belongs to blizz. if people choose to give wowscape $ seeking no reward or just for bettering the server itself then no she is not guilty.
she would still be guilty of hosting the wow private server which she has no ownership off.
Re: WoWscape 89 million dollar lawsuit
Tenner says that she offs herself!
