    Question Your self-consciousness

Just thought of posting this after reading up on the 'suicide' thread.

So, yes, this thread revolves around birth and death.

Think for a moment. You can hear your own thoughts and vision things be it through dreams or imagination. You're aware of yourself, hence being self-conscious.

Could you imagine yourself before you were born ? Where does your consciousness go when you die? Does it just cease to be?

It's quite hard to imagine really. It's easy to say "You die, that's it, end of it all" to other people... but think of it yourself to yourself and it's a different story.

What about from a religious aspect? For the common religions, there's a heaven and hell equivalent to which you'd go depending on how you lived. That's the afterlife - what about before you were born ?

What about of Reincarnation in different life forms? You're alive again, yet have absolutely no recollection of your past lives.

Since this topic is pretty much speculative and would be pretty much impossible to ever know, I'd be interested to see what people have to say on the issue - be it with their own theories or religious belief.

    Re: Your self-consciousness

Some religions believe you are reborn in a different form (Buddhism), some, such as Islam believe you are judged by God in the after life, depending on your deeds, if you go ot heaven or hell.
I haven't really thought about this, but now this topic has got me thinking, and you'd go with your religion of course, but I have a few thoughts which I'm not going to state, since they'd classify as offensive to other religions, and whatever their beliefs may be.

I want to know what you think Daedius, and what a few other people think, before I post my views.

On one star trek: voyager episode they came upon a race where when someone died an energy got released and went to some sort of asteroid belt where they were in a state of infinite they knew everything.
    Although they were just energy.

Maybe somehting like that does happen?

"You die, that's it, end of it all". Spot on really, no soul, no spirit and none of this religious crap.

Your questions are mostly based on abstract thought and really do not belong with serious debates. Don't worry, you won't receive a warning or infraction because it can be kind of tricky to know what goes here. I'll move this to the proper section.

I think that we can't say at all what it is like after death because we don't know. I believe in Heaven and Hell.

If anything else, I could say that when you die nothing happens, but you can't imagin nothing seeing as when death doesn happen, you can't do anything to prove it.
