The only way you can play with your friend in the same local network is with an vpn or use your public ip instead and port forward from your router to the server

You need opten the ports on firewall: 8888 and 8889 (TCP)
if your router its blocked, contact your company of internet of how to open in the router

i think you can use hamachi,

every game that i'll try, hamachi is better.
