i would guess asm would be needed o.o i would assume there are checks in there so people cant just change from 4 - 8

Unless you know ASM (MOV, Jump, Push, Call, etc..) you can't do it.
It is ASM, go ahead and edit gametypecgfg.xml and try it. All it will do is go back to 4.
You could probably put 1-3, but you need ASM knowledge if you want more than 4.
