Dedicated Server HardDisk?

Ok guyz, i got my own private server and stuff and alot of people are playing it! (50+)

So.. i think my PC sucks and i cannot let it online for 24/7.. that's why i want to buy a dedicated server! :D

So im planning to put Donations on my website and stuff but.. how do these things work???

My friends say you get something called.. a harddisk and then you keep that online etc.. is this monthly fee or w/e!???? Please help me and give me good information about Dedicated Servers and HardDisks!

You rent a server on a rack at a data center and access it by remote desktop, that is how most people run any kind of private server.

Ok thanks :P But.. all these are with MONTHLY FEES.. isn't there one with one time payment?

No they only rent the servers out. But trust me it is cheaper that way.

Don't forget that you will also have paid for maintenance and bandwidth when you rent a server. A dedicated line would cost a lot more if you had to buy it yourself, a lot more.

If you actually bought a server instead of renting one, it'd be a few thousand dollars for the cheap ones.

My friend just told me on the phone that i can buy a HardDisk (special thing or something :S) n than i can put my matchserver files into it and open it.. then close down my computer but let the harddisk online! :D So that means that the server will run on the harddisk and i think that wont cost lot's of power! :D so keeping the harddisk on for 24/7 will also keep the server online for 24/7

You can't have only your hard disk running. You need some OS that needs to know how to send the information, so unless that hard disk is connected to a motherboard and has some OS installed on it and is getting power from the power supply then it will just sit there. Basically you need your computer on for your hard disk to run.
