But yea it isn't setup properly, "Can't connect to database" is a bit of a giveaway...

Well there is something with your Match Server, and it may caused if you didn't setup the odbc correct too.
Check your matchserver logs and post them here.

If you're on Win7/Vista
Start->type ODBC->click "Data Sources (ODBC)"
XP/Earilier
Start->Run->odbcad32

click Add->SQL Server->Finish->Type a name->random description
Type in "Server" your sql server instance (ex: Spirit\\SQLSrv). Click next, next, select the default database (gunzdb, or whatever your database name is), next, finish, test data source, if it says "TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY!", you did it right.
Otherwise, you fucked up somewhere.
