How can I play version 5 replay files nowadays?

UPDATE: Looks like I haven't played ArticGamers GunZ frequently enough and I unintentionally preserved an older iteration that supports version 5! One understandable concern you may have is that the items may be off depending on the origin of your replays. Although there's no accessible fix for incompatible private server replays due to ArticGamers' proprietary MRS encryption, it'll work wonderfully with IJJI replays.

    Here are the links:

Thanks for the support until now!

As this site is the main hub for GunZ coders and hobbyists, I thought this would be the best place to ask.

The version 5 replay format was used right after GunZ 1.5 was released, but it was quickly deprecated and made incompatible with the patch that added in sword trails. Unfortunately, all the remaining private servers I've found run off version 6 replays, and the official server is now all the way up to version 8!

Since most of my remaining replays are in version 5 format, I'd love to be able to take a look at them and possibly encode them for nostalgic sakes no matter what it takes.

I'm willing to download and setup a private server specifically for this version if necessary, but my research has been effortless in determining when this specific 1.5 version was released and/or if it is even possible to compile a server/client off it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

I was pretty sure that replays were reverse compatible...

A version 5 replay client can play up to version 5, but as version 6 set a new precedent in how replays were handled, all older versions became incompatible. Unfortunately, as a consequence, the version 5 client was quickly deprecated by the "GunZ 1.5 part 2" client. The two main clients hosted by private servers (and stickied in the GunZ Releases sub-forum) are the July 2008 & the GunZ 1.5 with version 6 replay capability clients.

The version 5 replays require a very specific client. From what I've heard, it's the initial GunZ 1.5 client and/or the one right before sword trail customization was added.

I'd love to figure out an accessible solution.

The easiest way is drag'n drop replay file to Gunz.exe of 2010, that should contains correct mrs file.
Probably you are trying to play ijji's replay. If so, just prepare ijji Gunz full client.

NOTE :In this way, gzr files will be associated with Gunz.exe.

I'm not sure about GameGuard, may block game launch.

I do have Phoenix's "Runnables from Dec. 2007 ~ Sept. 2010.rar" that includes an ijji runnable from August 11, 2010, but I'm not entirely sure what steps I need to go to to make the runnable work (preferably as minimally as possible in order to watch replays.)

Before I try to figure it out though, could anyone reaffirm that using a runnable like that would accomplish what I need? I presume all I need from there are .mrs files & some modifications that I'm unaware of at the moment, as the runnable currently produces an mlog.txt that reports a missing locale.xml file.

(EDIT: Looks like I need to edit its source to get it to run properly; I need to disable its filelist among other things. Is there a way to easily run the client in a debug mode though?)

(UPDATE: Looks like I haven't played ArticGamers GunZ frequently enough to update to its newest version, as its older version supports version 5! The only issue is that the items are off, but I think I can fix that. I'm currently uploading the version of this GunZ to Mediafire for anyone who was looking for a quick fix, but it'll be until tomorrow morning to fully upload it. Thanks for the support until now!)

As you know, using ijji Runnable directly is impossible because of filelist.xml and many others.
    2006 & 2011 Sources released here but its Replay v4 and v6.
If you have full client for replay already, you may try this runnable (Minimum checks removed).
Also, you should put correct zitem.xml for adjust replay's Item ID.

EDIT :Download Gunz 2010 Runnable.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

Could you re-upload and/or PM me the runnable? I just realized that ArticGamers uses a proprietary encoding mechanism that doesn't seem very easy to crack. I'll still be uploading it, but being able to compile a clean version 5 replay client with a proper runnable would be great.
