Cannot Validate Game Version

So I've went through tutorials and all that business and I believe I've gotten everything ready to play on my own server, but whenever I try to login, it says the game version cannot be validated.

I've read through other threads on this topic and have changed my MaxClientBuild config to 9999 but it still doesn't work.

I'd really like a solution, or at least an explanation. If depatching is necessary please be precise about what patches to remove, and whether or not I would need to download a specific version of one or something.

I probably should mention that my game is currently patched up to the most recent live patch, as I do play on a Blizzard server too, I'd like to be able to switch back and forth between playing live and my own server just by switching realmlist files if possible.
