Complete Newb Guide

I don't mean to be a complete square :sq_yellow.

I'm looking for a complete newb guide to creating my own WoW BC Server
I'd really appreciate a step by step instruction, from what files I need to download and where to get them

I really want my own personal server, and I find it hard to understand what is said in the other posts here.
Guess that's what I get for being old :(
Didn't even know what a newb was until my nephew called me that the other day :sq_yellow Thought he was swearing at me.
He's the one that Installed the game for me in the first place.

An absolute idiots guide to starting/creating a WoW BC Server would be what I'm looking for.
If my nephew was here he'd probably be able to do it for me in his sleep.
It's lucky I know how to type on the keyboard.

Can someone help an old dumb/newb guy out please?

I think you shouldn't start your own server if you know this little. What are you gonna do when a serious problem occur on your server and your players can't play or find their chars?

Finding the guides hard to follow... Look for guides on wowps. Very nice place to start.

Ok, thanks for the words of caution, I'm willing to take the risk of making my own though.

I went to that place and decided to go with MaNGOS (Let me know if I should go with a different one if this one isn't the best)

So following the steps they have set out I am to download MySQL 5
Ok, here's a really newbie question: Which should I download?
I have Windows XP Home SP2
There it says for Windows and Windows x64
I'm guessing not the x64 one

So Which would be best to download under that heading?
Windows Essentials (x86) or Windows (x86) ZIP/Setup.EXE?

Now, I only got to figure out how to use this :)

I got it all up and running I just need to know how to play on it

First things first I guess I'll have to create user accounts
Time for some more searching through the forum again
Unless someone would like to point me in the right direction so I'd get there faster :D
