Explain how the wow server emu works.

Ok, for noobs or not, I'm the kind of person that wants to understand what I'm doing. So can anyone explain the structure of the files/db/server files / other files needed to run a WOW server, because I can not find it anywhere and I think it would be nice for every "non experienced" server wanna have out there.

So for example Ascent server:

- Ascent Rev - the rev is? when do we update it? and how?
- NCDB - it's the database containing?
- Extra Files - what are those?
- Patches - when do we apply patches?
- Map Extractors - what exactly do they do? (this is sometimes explained)
- Ecko Tools - what is this?
- Change Sets - // -
- Events -//-
- SQL Updates
- Character DB
- Ascent ID Search
- Items (1-40000) - refeers to? how to apply and when it is safe to?
- Patches - refeers to? how to apply and when it is safe to?

The questions are just to get the point... Everyone explains how to make a server for dummies, but after that? How to keep it up to date? what exactly to do?... and what are the files?

I want to understand the structure of the server... the server files, what db should be contained, when I apply patches, what actually do I patch? If I want to get some new elements...?

There are a lot of questions... I saw once a L2 build, Banished was called, and the man was keeping a entire forum with everything well explained... that way I've understood the L2 server structure and afterwards I could make my own modifications...

I hope someone got my point... and be kind enough to help with this...

- NCDB - it's the database containing? (NPCs, Quests, Items, etc)
- Extra Files - what are those? (IDK)
- Patches - when do we apply patches? (Check out my choosing the right programs for your server guide)
- Map Extractors - what exactly do they do? (this is sometimes explained) (This extracts map from your game for use with Ascent so it can load NPC,s etc)
- Ecko Tools - what is this? (Ascent restarter. Incase the server crashes)
- Change Sets - // - (If you don't want to replace ur whole world databaseon each update, run these instead)
- Events -//- (Chrismas, Haloween, Holidays)

- Character DB (Contains the WoW characters and the passwords for users that login to your server)
- Ascent ID Search (Searches for codes for npcs, objects, skills, spells, etc)
