    [Guide] Kobold MP SetUp *Updated*

    Ok. I've seen the question asked many times, and answered many times as well. But I though I'd make a dedicated post to it so it's very easy to find.

    First download and install the pack from this thread http://forum.ragezone.com/world-warc...-a-181863.htmlas it seems to work perfectly. (As much as an emu can that is, lol.) Download and follow those simple steps first.

    Edited Section 5 With Small Addition!

    Now to set up a server so that others can connect:

    1. Find out what your IP is. If you have to re-connect to the internet (EI:Lazy broadband that resets when you power-down...) your IP will change once you reconnect. In order to do this go to start>run and type in cmd a window will open and type in ipconfig Chances are you'll have 2 sections. You'll want the one that's NOT your router. (Usally your router is 192.168.1.1-ish.)

    Write/Copy down this number. From here on out I'll use 111.222.333.444 as an example of an IP so look for that.

    2. Open your MySQL which starts once you use the start.bat file included with the pack.

    3. Once it opens it should open a browser window, if not, open one and go to

    It may not be a perfect link, but it's a common one. Otherwise just
    http://localhost/a/index.php?
    http://localhost/a/index.php?
    should work.

    Find your way to the kobold section. (If you went to the first link it'll be set already. Other wise click on the bar and select Kobold.)

    4. Click worldserver_list and then browse. Edit the listing there so that the IP reads your ip. Ex:

    Code:
    111.222.333.444 4200 0
    is what it should look like after.

    Now...select the realm_list and do the exact same.

    5. Close MySQL and go into the dir where you installed the server. Open the files

    installdir\WS\conf world_server.conf
    installdir\LS\conf login_server.conf
    installdir\RS\conf realm_server.conf

    and basically anything with an IP can be safely changed to your IP.

    An example would be in the realm_server.conf

    Code:
    RealmConnectAddress = 111.222.333.444
    RealmServerListenIp = 111.222.333.444
    RealmServerPort = 3725
    EDIT: Don't forgot these ports need to be opened. It's not just the 8080-8085etc that the other Emus use. The 3 ports that need to be opened are:

    3724
    3725
    4200

    I get a number of PMs asking me about that so I though I'd toss it in.
    I'll be adding a new update soon so keep an eye out.

    6. And finally, open your realmlist.wtf in your wow directory and edit it so it says
    set realmlist 111.222.333.444

    again replace my 111.222.333.444 with your IP. See step 1.

    Now some people have other methods. But this is how I've set up every single server I've made it works perfect. For those of you getting that annoying realm showing offline...make sure to edit the realm_list in your MySQL and edit it so status is 1 (also this should be done while the server is currently on.) Hope this clears up a lot of things. Enjoy. :jester:

    hmm but dosent it need your external IP somewhere?

  6. #6
    Well, I still have one problem, and I never got a response on it. Apparently, after getting everything done, we stry to connect, and nothing. Can't even get to the server now. It says Connecting...then 3 seconds later, Disconnected from Server. Al the ports, IPs, etc are right, but it doedn't seem to register any incoming clients at all now. O.o Any suggestions?

    Just your IP address. Other's will need your IP in their realmlist. That's it.

    hmm i tried this with my ip but after loading the honor system it says unable to bind world server: no error and fails.
    Might be an error with the DB. Although doesn't sound like it. Best I can say is double check.

    @magsinfin
    I agree with kenny. That could be either a bottleneck on your end from running the server, or a firewall not allowing incoming access. For example, my AVG asks me if I want to allow all three systems (_worldserver, _realmserver and _loginserver) to act as a server. As was said, if you can't see an incoming connection, it's probably a common stop preventing incoming connections.

    Also I'm here everyday so if someone wants to send me a PM I'll watch for it to help best I can, or just post here.

    Hey guys, first of all I'd like to say good job! You really helped me to make my server working but the issue is that when a player joins it doesn't take much time to crash. I got this after the player has joined:http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/8401/beznzvu2oe7.jpg (posted the link only to save space). I know the the emu is kinda unstable but many servers run it and won't crash for a long time. Any help please?

    Thnxs for the explantion.
    I did a fresh install by using the pinned topic "how to install kobold".

    I did change all the IP's to my PC's internal IP Address in all the config files and in the database.
    But still i have one problem

    My login server works, but if i choose a realm it says that is offline.
    I can't figure out what is wrong.

    Can someone help me?

    Maybe it could help if you opened the database in Navicat while still running the game in the login screen and there you open the tab called "realm_list" There you change status from 0 to 1 and save it. The realm should appear online then.

    Yup diamond is right. Edit the realm_list in the MySQL and there is a section to edit status which is usally oddly set to 3...one thing I've noticed is sometimes it only works while the server is running. So for best results edit it while everything is running. It'll update asap.

    @diamond
    O,o Hmm, interesting. I'll look into this a little more. Never seen this. As you said, yes server has natural emu bugs, but can stay on a very long time assuming the install was perfect. I know a re-install of the server can be a pain but give it a try. I'll check this out...gonna need a lil help though.
    Achem, *cough* Drake, kenny.

    For some more info, I followed the pinned topic step by step and used the 2.4 Kenny's repack fresh execution into the empty database. Then I rewrote the IPs in worldserver_list and realm_list tabs, after that I created my and my friend's accounts and deleted the original ones under the respective tab. All chars were deleted in the characters tab.

    Ok diamond, I decided to take yet one more look before I crashed to sleep. So far I've decided to ask you to really (annoying I know I know) re-install the pack. Also...since it says it's loading a few maps...did you make sure to let it finish loading 100% before logging in? If you've done both, I can't think of what it might be. But I wish you GL.

    Hello cobra, I followed your guide but i still have problems making players to connect over the internet. I use a router with ports: 3724,3725,4200,8580,8080 forwarded to my local ip. I got the internet player connected to the server and after that he is able to see the realm but then when he clicks on it it says connecting and then it goes again to the realm list. I'm using kennys pack 2.3-3.1(I'm trying everything). I'm using my local/internal ip in all the configurations and tables in my sql. Any solution for that?

    would the IP adress your looking for be the one you ex. find on Your IP: 69.72.187.42
    which looks something like this; xx.xx.xxx.xxx
    ex: 73.12.163.123

    or the other one which you can get from ipconfig (not all get the above one there, depends on setup)
    xxx.xxx.x.xxx
    ex:
    192.168.1.200

    or??

    for the moment my external ip is 212.251.109.64 (dynamic)
    my internal is 192.168.1.2
    my routers ip is 192.168.1.1

    If i set my local to the realm_list table then i got connected and the internet players can't.

    If i set my internet ip in the realm_list table then i got the internet players connected but i cant from the computer that host the server and i guess from no other computer from my lan.

    Into the conf files i have set up my local ip and into the sql files i have used localhost.

    It's all about how carefully you config everything. From the way you're wording it, it's like you didn't set everything up to be 100% local or 100% internet based. Don't forget to change your realmlist.wtf in your wow folder to match what you're doing. And I got your PM. I replied with my MSN if you have more questions.

    Here is my problem:

    I'm using 192.168.1.135 (my internal IP, behind my router with the proper ports (3724, 3725, and 4200 forwarded to my computer) as all the ip's in all the config files, including the defaultrealmaddr in login_server.conf..

    I'm also using 192.168.1.135 as the realmlist and worldlist (or whatever the two proper tables in mysql were, they're correctly set at 192.168.1.135).

    I can connect & play just fine, but when my friends on the internet try to connect, they can log in just fine but after they get assigned to the realm, it just loops on the realm selection list and the 'cancel' button.. what the heck is going on?

    Notice: When I set all the IPs to my external address, the world server just keeps going through a startup loop of death.. just keeps going over and over again -.-

    PROBLEM SOLVED! This was my solution:

    With every other IP (in the config files and the world variable in the mysql db) my local one (192.168.1.135), I set my IP in realmlist to my EXTERNAL IP and now I and my friends can use the server :)

    New issue from em; tryed all possible ways with ip's to get this working, but each time I try the "right" setup (all ip's local ip, beside the realm_list it's my ext. ip), then me and my mates just get to the login screen stall at "connecting" and then disconnects. I got a SMC7004ABR router which I find it rather hard to figure out how to open ports (any help would be great) but think I've opened all ports needed; 3725, 3724, 4200 - yet I think it might be an issue with the router that we cant connect. In top of that I thought that it might be the firewall, so that's totally disabled atm, so can't be that either.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I discussed with cobra on msn and we figured a way to solve this problem. Im gonna make a tutorial soon but just for now if you are familiar with networking the only way to get connected to an internet server using your local ip is to install a loopback adapter and use your INTERNET IP as the device ip, /24 as the subnet and your LOCAL IP as the gateway. You dont need any DNS. Then you can use either the INTERNET or LOCAL IP in your realmlist.wtf in order to connect to your server. If you dont know how to do this wait for my detailed tutorial.
