I need help with upgrading the MaNGOS server version.

How do i use the SVN server?
I only know its used to upgrade , but i dont knwo what it is or how to use it.
How do i know which version i have?
I downloaded mangos platinum , i dont knwo which version it is.

About the Databases.
I would like to use a db that is similar to the Blizzard server.
Where can i get the databases?
Do the database manage where are the mobs,npc,quests?
