your outside friends should connect to your outside address and the realmlist ip in the realm bd is the one to change to your outside address.

path of communication:
you start game, it asks to realm server what realms {game server} are avail, most servers would have only one, then the realm server points you to the game server, could be different computer could be same...thats where the outside address comes in to play.

if its pointing to an inside address {192.168.x.x or 127.0.0.1} then when it tells the players to connect to game at that address there looking to their computer and no connect, again this is where your outside ip address come into play.

if pointing to outside address then the game client connects to the game server at your outside address being passed through your router to the correct ip of the computer running server...and everyone should be happy...


hope this answers a few questions...i know i had this same issue for a few days till i got the 3 ip's figured out

oh and dont forget the router or firewall...iv got 3306, 3724, 8080-8085 80,85 forwarded to my servers ip address, some are for web server and other things but you get the idea

Im having trouble getting this eady to make a server, can someone link a more descriptive guide plz....?

There is no other link .

I'm having a spot of trouble with making a character, my server loads up fine and such but when i sign in on any account and go to create a char, once i've made him and all and click create it just sends me back to a blank character selection screen. Anyone know how to fix this?

I found a guide but nw im stuck again >_< Anyone know what to do if it says can not validate server, ive tried everything i can think of

Double check and make sure you don't have any errors in the config file.. I had one where I used a ' in a name for my server, that left an unquoted string and tossed the parsing of the file, then reported the file wasn't there (instead of reporting bad file).. I had to escape the single tic (with \' ) so it would parse right.. Now my MOTD is "Welcome to Savant\'s cRaZY WuRLdZ".. loads fine ;)

is this an upgrade? are you transfering chars?

reason i ask is i had same issue and found that version i was useing didnt have a "rename" setion in the charctors table in the mangos db
added that line and all my old and new chars showed up...
info added was rename / tinyinit / 1 not sure on grammer of telling what to go where but there it is...

my seperate question is i got everything to transfer over minus a few gm island gear and mounts...

but the bigest issue was pets no longer worked...couldnt stable them or dismiss without loseing them...is this normal or known?
wasent this way in current server...{went back to old for this reason}- Mangos: rev.3552 Using DB: Project Silvermoon + Fixpack1.02 +SDB rev.172

looking for best way to upgrade to 2.1.XX with least amout of loss and trouble...
new items i'm able to handle but skills and pets are a must...
