Mangos 2.0.12 to 2.3 upgrade

hi

i have a question...
i have a mangos 2.0.12 server running on my local wlan server....
i want to upgrade it to support the 2.3 client

what do i need to do to keep the characters and accounts...
i noticed that the database has a few improvements and the account database is different...
what tools do i need and do i need to convert the characters?

pls help... i dont want to sit hours and hours on my pc trying to upgrade it...
