    [Mangos]Editing inventory

Messing around with the database, just trying to see how things work. I'm trying to create a new item and place it in a characters inventory, but it doesn't seem to be working, and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.

I opened up the item_template table and added a new entry. It's a copy of one of the worn shortbow except with a different 'entry' number and name. I set that to 24000, because that's higher than anything else in the table.

Next I looked in the character_inventory table for any items with 'item_template' set yo 2504 (the entry # of the regular worn bow). Only one did, because only one of my characters had a shortbow on them. I changed the item_template to 24000 and started the game back up.

The character still has the standard bow. The DB continues to list the item_template as 24000 untill the bow is moved to a different container or uneuiped/equiped, then it changes the item_template back to 2504.

Is there something else I should be doing?

You should use mangos database handler, it has all the tools you need there to create a new item.

Tried. I can't get it running. It keeps looking for the Mangos DB to have... I think it was the 'item_loot_template' or some such table. That table isn't created by the batch file in the mangos I downloaded. Besides, doing it manually is a better way to get familier with SQL.

Mangos Database Handler can simply handle every need for characters inventory and such. Doing that manually is a nightmare cause it's not a simple SQL to execute. ;)

YOU WILL NEED THE LATEST DATABASE VERSION FOR RUNNING MDH.

If you are getting item_loot_template error then you are using some CRAP OLD repack from someone more than 2 month old. :) (exactly you are using something older than 2495 that is where item_loot_template was added (we are currently at 2849))

Actually MDH work perfectly without any problems if you are using a correct Database version. :)
