My update process - where am I going wrong?

I followed kiasta's guide to install a MaNGOS server:
Mangos Rev 2452
Fully patched Silver DB 0.51
Anti-cheat 1.4.2
1.12.1 Map
1.12.1 DBC

I downloaded the latest MaNGOS rev 2616 and extracted all files into my C:\mangos folder

I edited mangosd.conf and realmd.conf appropriately.

I double-clicked on all .sql files in C:\mangos\sql\updates that had numbers above 2452 and added them to the mangos databse with Mangos Databse Handler.

When I start mangosd.exe it crashes automatically, and server.log says:
2006-11-09 09:52:57 ERROR:Database not specified

What's the problem?

the server can't connct to your database. you need to poperly configure you MANGOS.CONF file

Thank you for the reply but I am sure my mangosd.conf file is correct.
I could easily run a server on mangos rev 2452 but it's not very up-to-date :(

I just don't know how to properly update to a later revision of mangos.
What are the exact files + process needed to update to a later rev?

check that mangosd.conf file again. if you updated it also could be overwritten (I suggest always adding newest one, not using old, because time after time there are new settings added)

Ah, I read somewhere that it might be best to keep the old one so that you don't have to keep editing it all the time.

I didn't think there would be extra/different settings in the newer .conf files.

I am reverting back to the older rev (2452) and then try to update to 2616 again, see if it works.
