Problems with .item command [Mangos]

From the list of Mangos commands it seems the .item command has the ability to give items to a vendor (I assume to sell).

.item #guid #amount - Add the given amount #amount of the item with a GUID of #guid to the selected vendor.

From this info I gather you select a vendor then using .item put in the GUID of the item and then the amount you want to the vendor to have. I am assuming that the GUID of an item is its database Entry value? (example 118 for Minor Healing Potion).

I just cant seem to get this to work...is there a trick to it?

.additem is for when you want to give an item to yourself or another player .item is a different command (unless im reading the command list wrong).
