[Question] How can I use Stats.xml?

In my Ascent folder there is a "stats.xml". I know if I drop it in my web folder somewhere I can access it but here is what I would like to know.

Can i keep the "stats.xml" file in my Ascent folder and somehow have my website access that file?
OR
Can i have Ascent update "stats.xml" from any folder other then the Ascent folder?
