    [Server Itself] Dedicated server hardware

Heya, just been flying some questions around this forum and just woundered if any of you super geeks can answer my questions.. ive had a quote, that will my internet connection i will be able to hold around 400-450 players on my server without toooo much lag.
So, ive been searching around for a new system to run it on, coz this is only single core :P

    Found these
    Amazon.co.uk: Processor - 1 x Intel Quad-Core Xeon E5335 / 2 GHz ( 1333 MHz ) - LGA771 Socket - L2 8 MB ( 2 x 4MB (4MB per core pair) ) - Box: Electronics & Photo: Intel
    Amazon.co.uk: Gigabyte GA-7BESH-RH - Motherboard - extended ATX - 5000P - LGA771 Socket - UDMA100, Ultra320, Serial ATA-300 (RAID) - 2 x Gigabit Ethernet - video: Electronics & Photo
    Kingston 2048MB (2 x 1024MB) 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 DIMM

Please someone take a look at them and see if with that system it could hold around 450 players sufficently ?

Quad core is overkill. Specially still being new to the market your going to pay out the ass for technology that is not worth the price tag.

I've been building machines for a long time and would suggest the following for a good budget build that wont break your pocket and get the job done.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor
ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX
    CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
    Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150

I would get 4GB of the corsair, and get 2 of the 150GB hdd's and set them up in a raid array.

Other then that, all you need is standard case with good airflow, perhaps a aftermarket CPU Fan kit, and good thermal paste.

PS. The current machine I am running was built when these products first released, overclocked the 6600 to around 5.5Ghz , and ranked within top 100 on 3dmark.
