[TechQ][Ascent][MWS08] Server Un-pingable - Read on...

1. Recently installed Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Longhorn Edition.
2. Nuked the Windows Firewall as usual
3. Opened up all ports needed on Router (done this serveral times for other servers)
4. Started up server.
5. Tried to ping my outside IP Address.. (100% Loss Packets) [0/4 Replies]
6. Tried to ping the server's Network Address from my laptop.. (0% Loss Packets) [4/4 Replies]

After knowing it wasnt unpingable from the outside world.....

7. Hooked the Server's RJ-45 Cable straight to my Modem.
8. Got a friend to ping me... [4/4 Replies] WORKS!

Now i realise it is a router issue..... and i do not know what is wrong with it. It used to work fine. It seems even though all the ports are open that are needed, the router still isnt letting connections in/out from the server

some routers disable pings. YES, some actually do, i have no idea why that is useful for the average, but yea.
Can you connect to the server tho? and to be honest: DONT use Windows server 2008 xD thats a lil more like vista, which you really do not wna use. i would recomend 2003, the most stable.

then if you CAN connect to the server, please check if you forwarded ALL of the ports. you might not have one in.

3724 - 3724
80 - 80
3306 - 3306
8129 - 8129
8093 - 8093
6112 - 6112
6881 - 6999 WATCH OUT. DIFFERENCE ON PORTS.
3036 - 3036
8050 - 8050

I do have Windows server 2003 but that is rlly dodgy. Lots of bugs. 2008 if fixed and everything is fine now xD My server is up. again.

For gameserver.. which i felt weird why open 3306 port to outside.. ANyway best way to check the port i use Online Ping, Traceroute, DNS lookup, WHOIS, Port check, Reverse lookup, Proxy checker, Mail relaying, Bandwidth meter.. it does everything to verify network and proven helpful.

So you totally disable Windows Firewall?
Opened all ports? Not sure what else could be wrong

YEah i fixed it.. My router just has diabled pings by default. It works connecting to the server though.

Different routers use different configurations. I disabled ping and HTTP it works.
