    Updating MANGOS

Ok here are the questions that have been bugging me for sooooo long

first of all...assuming that one has just extracted the new revision of mangos....into c:\mangos, had done all the required steps to extract the dbc files...and the maps etc.

    now...

assuming that the realmd and mangos db are already set in Navicat...

    QUestion1:

please tell me which of these steps I'm supposed to do now with my newly created mangos db in Navicat:

    a) execute the mangos.sql file in the C:\mangos\sql
    b) directly execute the realmd.sql then DIRECTLY execute the 0.5.2 rev 272 db
    c) both step a) and step b) (no particular order required)

    Question 2:

assuming I've done question 1 properly, what is the next thing to do?

    a) execute ALL*** sql files in the C:\mangos\sql\updates folder?

    b) execute only the ones that are higher than my current mangos revision ONLY?

    Question 3:

Assuming that question 1 and 2 are completed successfully, and I want to update my db with a NEW REVISION....what should I do?

    a) download/extract the revision...then execute ONLY the newset sql update files?

    b) execute ALL*** of the updated sql files?

    c) execute mangos.sql...( I doubd it...just asking though)

And what the hell is SVN tartoise (svn checkoput used for anyways?) what repository URL should I put in....is it even necessary? please clarify if u have the answer

Please I've made it very simple for those qho know what to do to reply to me....ALL U NEED TO DO IS SAY QUESTION 1 - A) OR B) OR C) ETC.

Please reply to me asap guys

The Moderator already moved it to the correct section. You should get an answer from people who know what they're doing.

1 - b execute realmd.sql into realmd database and then execute sdb into mangos database

    2 - b

    3 - b

tortoise allows u to checkout ur files into svn and download the files needed for compiling and updating to ur computer directly from windows explorer

if answer to question 2 is b = update only newer sql's i think it's clear. the sql files in the updates folder are just the ones already included in the revision compilation. read the README there next time

some sql files are bugged i for one only do updates once about 20+ revisions or more because any errors which come up in new files are usually fixed soon after.

also try to get round on forums more, use search and get familiarized with the mangos situation
    ragezone / mangos-files.de / mangosproject.org are what you need

thank you....sorry for the possible double post

ANyways...so I will try and only update the ones newer to the revision I'm currently running basically...

so each time I extract a new mangos revision from one of tr4shm4n's posts and the others.....they already contain the past revisions??????

    I didn't know that!

amd how about the 0.5.2 rev 272 db.....it contains up to rev. 2458 right?

    please advise...

    Thank you again

    my current rev is 2639

all my sql files in the update are lower than that....so what should I do then if there is nothing newer than my current rev.? Does it mean I'm up to date?

    gosh this is getting confusing...:S

yes it means you're up to date nbothign to get confused about.

    but there's already revision 2641 now :
    Mangos-Files.de

there will always be more sql's to execute and major reinstalls to do when major breakthrough is done with DB or mangos program :construct

    THANK YOU!

On an unrelated issue....well almost unrelated.....

I had a mangos db on another computer and was running rev. 2536....I had some itmes and characters created there......

is there a safe way to import my old character table to the new rev. 2641 with no harm to the integrity of the db etc. ?

    Thanks

you can restore old chars and account you had in a database using mangos database handler Bluesailor
but that's only if you had them on this database

you can import those chars by copying the tables to your new database but i recommend against that coz old chars might and will have bugs you can transfer to your new db especially with the major changes which came with latest mangos revs / sdb052rev272 use

if you still wanna import though export the character and account info as sql statements in your mysql handler and execute them on your new computer. if you use search function here you'll find the tables you need to copy
