    WoW Hardware for Large Servers

Hello, I have my WoW MaNGOS server set up on my PC, but I also have another server dedicated to running on that. I'm looking for a server computer that will hold 450people now, yet also be expandable. I have 20mb/s Down 8mb/s up, and will get 20mb/s up soon. What kind of hardware do I need to get?

My budget atm is $950 and I know how to make my own computer.
    I'm thinking....
    Case/Power Supply
    CPU
    Haddrive(4x)
    Memory
    Motherboard

That brings me to...almost $150 over budget. I need some help cutting the price down a bit to fit the WoW requirements. Thanks.

A WoW server takes maybe 4Gb of hard disk space, so if you want to save some money drop two of the harddisks and put the others in a RAID1 config - secure, reliable, fast and more than big enough. That saves you $140 right there

As for your case: does a server really need glowy lights and blinking fans? No, of course not - and there is plenty of good cases available for around $70 ~ $80. I agree with you on the motherboard, CPU and RAM: seems like a good combination for a multithreaded server. Keep in mind that Mangos may or may not utilize all 4 cores though, it's not that well written. Still, it can't hurt to have your databaseserver run on a seperate core.

nonono that's all wrong.. you need a 15.000 RPS HDD not a 7200 RPM
that will give you extreme performance

then why go for ddr2 ram when you can go with ddr3 ?

and the processor how about a intel xeon nehalem ?

motherboard ? just pick one to support all the above :)

I don't know where that would get to as price but it'l sure beat down that crap you wanna buy..

acustic theres a few things before you post you

    THINK....

    Think about what your saying

    Read....

    Read what your typing

Actually know WTF your talking about.....

a motherboard has a little thing called FSB whats that you may ask you can google it but till then shuddup

    i agree with frag

Drop the case find a cheaper one

my views on Quad cores are a bit obscured at the moment cause personally i dont like them and i know people who do so that ones up to you.....

as for the hard drive, get 2 if you need more upgrade later but srsly you need 2tb to begin with?

and i agree with the motherboard it looks good
