    Re: A Gaming Laptop

the problem with a laptop that you play games on is thats its gonna run out of batteries quickly so unless you've got it plugged into a wall socket at all times (at which point you may as well have a desktop) you aint gonna get much use out of it.

    Re: A Gaming Laptop

well i would have it plugged in at all times well at least most of the time
since i travel a lot and i want my computer to be around me so i have access to it
if i had a desktop it really wouldn't work for me

Okay tell me how much money you can spend for a gaming laptop.

I think if i would know that how much could you spend then i think i can recommend some thing for you.

But one thing i like to tell you that i don't think any good laptop would be available in the market for cheap.

how about we first find out what you want to play - then decide if you need a powerhouse.

i redicovered populous the begining - awesome game - it runs perfectly on my intergrated graphics laptop :)

    Re: A Gaming Laptop

Gaming + Laptops = 2x-3x the cost of a desktop equal.

Cheap laptops are not good for gaming. They can run old games but don't plan on running anything newer then 2 years on it.

Dell... They make good performing ones. Just make sure you get the warranty on them.

    Re: A Gaming Laptop

again, what games do you want to play ?
if you rarely buy games and stick to the same game, then its easier to buy something that would run it at acceptable speeds rather than fantasize about dual 7900gtx in your latop ..

The Dell XPS is pretty decent option for a gaming laptop if you ask me. But then the cheaper ones as said wont be able to handle crap.

    Re: A Gaming Laptop

You.. dont host servers on a laptop.. Why not just get a small Mini profile desktop?

Mini-ATX with an 8800gt, 2gb ram, and a dual core woudl suit you just fine, and only run you around 500-600ish give or take, maybe around 700 depending on the case and power supply you choose

If you tried spending that same 700ish on a laptop.. well, you would be hard pressed to find ANY laptop that coudl run any game in the last year, not to mention host, plus run one.

    Re: A Gaming Laptop

any sort of prolonged stress due to multiple tcp connections and handling multiple users will roast your cpu (laptops).

and its not a gaming laptop you want then is it ? its a servering laptop...

    Re: A Gaming Laptop

alienware gaming desktops and laptops are sweet, my brother got a free one from his old job(Game Tester). He had a desktop in the office and laptop to work at home. Lets say he had 10 Flight Simulator X's running and still had a little lag. On my computer, i put my cusor over the icon, my computer crashes(No Joke). I would honestly recommend alienware
